1948 Chevrolet 3800 Stake Bed Truck Will It Run Part 1 Chevy GMC

This is a 1948 Chevy 3800 duel wheel stake bed. I believe it's a 2 ton, but I'm not sure. These are the models available in 1948:
FR-125 - 3/4-ton truck with 125-inch wheelbase (models 3602 to 3632).
FS-137 - 1-ton truck with 137-inch wheelbase (models 3802 to 3832).
RJ-137 - 1.5-ton truck with 137-inch wheelbase (models 4102 to 4132).
RK-161 - 1.5-ton truck with 161-inch wheelbase (models 4402 to 4432).
RV-137 - 2-ton truck with 137-inch wheelbase (models 6102 to 6132).
RW-161 - 2-ton truck with 161-inch wheelbase (models 6402 to 6432).

Nice truck! That's a 4400 1,1/2 ton truck 7,50 tire size old diper style 235 with sm420 trans and 6:17 rear end gear ratio. These trucks have excellent lugging power. One if my Neighbors about three or four doors down have one he dropped it gm HT383 crate engine in one. It made it one quick ride but he said he was expecting more top end power for the highway so now he's looking to swap the rear end gears out. From what he say the medium duty Freightliner truck pumpkin will fit this rear axle housing. He had already added the Dual master cylinder for the brakes and the stopping power is excellent I just like the looks of these trucks. I'd like to have the 6400 2 ton

Can you tell me where you find brake parts? Napa has a catalog that’s 20 years old but it’s so confusing because there are so many variations, 60 series, 6000 series etc. different rear diffs for same year too. I have a 47 grain truck I’m told is a 2 ton. But not sure how to verify the exact model number. Thx, Kevin

Good question. We have an old ACDelco store in our town and they were able to get them. The core was $60 a set. You also have the option to have them relined. If I remember I will check the file for that truck and reply with part numbers I used on Friday

Ok. Here are the part numbers on the invoice. Front wheel cylinder 71-105. Rear wheel cylinder 71-141. Wheel axle seal 31870. Brake shoes BS144. And there’s a listing as D/B Whl Cy WC3677, which I’m not sure what it is. Most of the parts came from Auto Value. Tires were 750-20 12 DPT 220 A/P Sett TT. I think the tires came from Oakland named something like Big Boy or Bad Boy

Sorry for the delay! Check these two websites: chevytrucks.org/model-numbers/ and news.classicindustries.com/1947-1959-chevy-truck-model-years-guide . Next, the carb should have a tag on it that is mounted with a screw. If the tag is gone, hopefully you have an auto parts store in your town that is old and independent. You likely wont find any help at the chain stores, except for maybe NAPA. I have a local store that has an AC/DELCO sign out front, but is privately owned. This is where you will find a real parts guy, not someone who needs your VIN number to find the correct washer fluid. Good Luck! Dan

I can’t remember for sure, but I think it was on a plate on the drivers side door jam. I also think there’s one stamped on the drivers side frame rail near the steering box
