It's a beauty. I love sitting here listening to the quarterly chimes sing. Then the hourly. Reminds me of my grandparents house. And hearing the towns square bells go off.

After watching this about three months ago, it inspired me to purchase one of these and it was my favorite mantel clock purchase I have made, it is my second mantel clock I own as I first bought a 1930's Sessions Mantel Clock. I love both of them and I have my ST Westminster by my bedside and it is really a beautiful piece to have. I think mine is from August of 1948 and still sounds beautiful as I am sure it did from the day it was made. Mine usually goes for 10 days before I have to rewind it up again to reset the chimes and the time keeping. I'm not sure if it is normal for these clocks to run for that long but they can go for so long until the chimes slow down after the 8th day.

Wind the clock early so you don’t have to reset it.

I have this exact clock Exept mine was made in October 1948. I have it 100% apart giving it a little refurbish. Mine was pretty dirty and only ran for about 15 min, when I took it apart there was rock hard grease all over, so I'm hoping that was the issue, is say of all the many clocks I've worked on this by far is the most difficult, its a very well made movement, I'm putting new leather on the hammers too so it'll be super mellow and quiet just how I want it, Thank you for showing yours I love it

The meaning behind the Westminster chimes..........a prayer for God's protection throughout each hour of the day. LORD THROUGH THIS HOUR (15 minutes) BE THOU MY GUIDE (30 minutes) THAT THROUGH THY POWER (45 minutes) NO FOOT SHALL SLIDE (on the hour all 16 strikes with 12 strikes for the hour)

I have a very similar clock, but the silent lever falls by its own weight, making it chime when I don't want it to. Any idea how to fix this so that there's more resistance to the silent lever?

Are you sure the 48 02 is the date of manufacture? I ask because I have the exact same clock and 48 02 is on the label, just as yours. It was my grandmother’s clock, and it sat on her mantle for years not working. After she passed, nobody wanted it so I took it and did a total restoration. It now sits on my mantle keeping great time. I’ve always wondered what year it was made. Heck, maybe the two clocks came out of the factory on the same day. ☺️

Where do you get your parts ? My son wants to repair his Great Grand Parents mantel clock. I think he wants to replace the spring. Really enjoy your clock video's. I bet your house sings with chimes !!
@BradfordNeedham5 жыл бұрын
I buy most of my clock repair parts from timesavers.com/; other people like www.merritts.com, www.clockworks.com, usedclockparts.com/, ebay, and others. Replacing a mainspring requires care to avoid damaging the clock and yourself. I've learned a lot about clock repair from D. Perry's full clock repair videos: kzbin.infovideos. Good luck and have fun!
