Fascinating film. I wonder what typical American sentiment was towards Japan 4 years after the war ended. Northwest Orient marketing included other Asian countries, probably helpful at the time. What an amazing time period it must have been. Thanks very much for sharing this great film. It’s a wonderful window into that period’s history.

I like these old films. They are a form of time travel in that they let you visit a long disappeared world.

The same as are sediment towards China right now I suppose. Wouldn't it be weird if all the Countries we attacked recently in the Middle East joined with China against the US. We're not very much liked anymore...

As far as I know, it was still pretty negative in the US at the time. Some stores would still not allow Japanese people in after the war

It was not as bad because they manage to occupy Japan and dramatically change society

The Stratocruiser is a derivative of the B-29, which was used to bomb Japan just four years prior to the making of this film.

Northwest's history of labor issues is well known, while its list of firsts and technological achievements for commercial aviation is less so. I still wish the airline was among the legacy carriers in existence. Al Checchi, John Dasburg, Gary Wilson and Fred Malek all bear responsibility for the airline's decline, piling up of debt and driving the airline to near bankruptcy in the 1990's.

In 1949, sightseeing in Tokyo must have still been pretty grim. But you would never know it come this video.
