A great find from the airline that led the way from the U.S. over the North Pacific to Asia. Great footage of the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser.

Wow, that Stratocaster didn't flare when landing. It just flew onto the runway!

The Stratocruiser was perhaps the most luxurious and pleasant plane to fly in commercial use. The passengers loved them, but the airlines didn't, because they were also the most expensive plane to operate. Northwest president Donald Nyrop couldn't wait to retire them from the fleet. He was a very cost-conscious and tight-fisted guy.

Strats were not reliable. Out of 55 aircraft, 13 were lost in accidents.

When the Stratocruisers were in service, it was often remarked by many pilots, mechanics and others that it was the best 3 engine airliner ever built!

@@PeriscopeFilm Northwest lost 1 Stratocruiser, out of a fleet of 10 planes. Pan American lost a total of 8 planes.

@supplysargent, @PeriscopeFilm, in 2008, Northwest merged with Delta Air Lines. On the Delta Flight Museum's KZbin channel there is an excerpt from a film produced in 1957 for the latter called "This is Delta," featuring Delta's founder, C.E. Woolman. If you could find the complete film could you upload it on either of your KZbin channels? I would appreciate it very much.

That film is property of Delta Air Lines, Inc. Clips of that film are shown in a lot of Delta-produced videos celebrating milestones
