Dear God. I'm lying in bed about to turn in for the night, and those first three string plucks and subsequent swells where so beautiful that I'm now wide awake

The boy gots some talent, and working it hard. Sad is the many gifted players who never put in the work. Sadly I have witnessed this a few times over the decades.

This Oahu Diana is my favorite lap steel tone. Something about it sounds slightly better to my ear than the Duesenberg Fairytale (which sounds amazing). I wonder if it’s the pickup or slightly different scale length. Either way, Luke is the best of the best on this instrument for me.

Great news Luke - had just worked out the tuning this morning but nice to have your confirmation too. Brilliant sound from Amplitube 4 & Fender Deluxe plus Reverb and Apogee Duet. I suspect a lot of players out there will appreciate your setup details - I'm very excited as I have Amplitube and a couple of good lap steels. Don't know about those single and double string pulls though, may take a while to learn those - do keep them coming Luke, you have something very special going!! Best, Carl

No worries. It feels oddly natural, but I feel like it's so far off a standard tuning that I should be using different gauge strings. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Very, very nice playing and arrangement. Surf, Country, and Hawaiian all in one. Can you tell me about the pickup cover and base plate on that Diana? I need to fabricate them for a restoration. Thank you.

Thank you! The cover is a vital part of the pickup. Look up the Lollar String-Through, a replica that I use on my other steel.

Never thought of sting bending. Makes so much sense now. Intrigued by no palm muting. Its accomplished with the volume pedal? Ever go behind the pickup and touch the strings??
@lukecyrus5 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean, I think I mostly mute with my thumb and fingers. And yes, I’m using a volume pedal for this tune, but I don’t think it has something to do with muting.

Hi Luke, I've recently invested in a Lap Steel as I love the sound, I'm trying to learn 'Empty' with some encouraging success. I was wondering if you could possibly post a video of your backing track for it, or a Link to it, it would help me immensely and anyone else having a go at learning this wonderful instrument. Thank you for your inspiration.

Man this sounds amazing. I have really been enjoying all the videos on your channel. As others have said, please put out an album. :). Does this guitar have pedals or levers? Watching your videos make me want to buy a lap steel now.
@lukecyrus3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This guitar doesn't have any levers, but I've moved all this type of playing to my steel with levers. Those bends can be very frustrating...

This one is from a while back and I was still recording direct with Amplitube 4. if I remember correctly the reverb was also from that plugin.

The steel guitar has a different sound when played with the fingers nails. You have a sound very similar to Gary Brandin on The Vanduras CD.
