Just an incredible marketing miss by the marketing team at Apple! How could they not include the blu-ray with the surround sound mixes? Those discs have always been the go to listen for me and so many other audiophiles with all of the previous deluxe box releases. Revolver is my favorite album....but this will certainly turn many away from the "deluxe" version.

I can't believe how some people say it's not an issue or who cares, the stuff that goes on with streaming you're going to want a really good physical copy of the surround mix one day and before the Blu-Ray always got the best mastering.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I think a lot of fans are complaining about the price is that each box has gotten progressively more expensive with less content. In this case, the absence of a 5.1 mix/blu-ray is making this a hard pass for myself, and I suspect a number of other Beatles enthusiasts. 25% of the content on this box is stuff we already have, so we're essentially being gouged to hear about 90 mins stuff we haven't heard before. Revolver was one of the first Beatles albums I heard, and it's always been a special record for me, but I resent being treated like a chump. I'm happy for you that you got to enjoy that Atmos mix. But that particular option is not going to be readily available to us all. Some of us refuse to be beholden to perpetual subscription services, and enjoy our music as a tactile experience. The last four deluxe releases had a 5.1 mix, and there is no valid reason that isn't included in this set, ESPECIALLY as the listed price. These terrible decisions only encourage people to hunt down the music illegally.

I have some interesting news for those that stream on Amazon Prime HD/Ultra HD. When first comparing the 2009 stereo remaster of Taxman to the new 2022 stereo mix I didn’t notice a big difference. However, I was suspect as the 2009 stereo remaster had perfectly balanced drums and vocals. I did a little more digging and was confused as to why the 2009 stereo remaster of Taxman was Ultra HD when the rest of the 2009 stereo remaster of Revolver is only in HD (follow me here) to realize the 2009 stereo remaster was replaced by the 2022 stereo mix regardless of whether you choose the new 2022 stereo mix or the 2009 stereo remaster. There is another option that shows Taxman in HD and after listening to it on Headphones this is the original version. Now, I see a big difference in sound where the drums are on one side and the vocals are on the other making for a weird headphone experience. I’m not sure if Amazon Prime streaming is deliberating using the 2022 stereo mix for the 2009 stereo remaster of Taxman. But, If you do compare select the HD only version of Taxman for the original stereo remastered version.

early beatles stuff had an energy and enthousiasm to it. I can't wait to hear that but I must say my fave is "hard days night" and I really hope there will be a remix of that. There's so much room for improvement in the sound quality with the stereo mix. The early Beatles stuff is where Giles can really have fun and really make a difference. I've spoken to quite a few beatles fans and although we are very grateful for this set. Not to include the atmos and surround mixes and give them to streaming services is a despicable move by apple and a kick in the teeth to fans who would like them as part of this set, to be consistent with other sets but also give the fans everything. It really has took the shine off it for me. Ok some more research, it appears that you get a download card with the sets, with the high res stuff on, this is confirmed on the official beatles website. It appears the bluray disc might not have been ready in time for the sets.

This is the issue still with the demixing process: The demixing technology continues to leave audible artifacts, especially when different parts share similar parts of the frequency spectrum. Parts can wander subtly in stereo due to similar frequencies going to different instruments. Thus the reason you end up with weird artifacts.

I wish I could be as excited as you. No blu-ray in 5.1 is a huge bummer for me. It's a huge let down. I don't stream and I'm not about to start just to listen to it in Dolby Atmos. They should have included it in the box set for the amount of money they're charging. So I'm extremely disappointed for that. I think I'm just getting the single vinyl release and copying the tracks from someone who might purchase this in my life. I"m still excited to hear the demos and stuff though.

It’s a mixing limitation. Most Revolver tracks had the instruments bounced down into 2-track so there’s less range. Giles Martin said if they did a 5.1. the mix would be too spread and thin sounding. He had to use AI software created for the Get Back documentary to separate instruments from one track. Listen to the new mix of Taxman.

For albums of such historic significance, you'd think each would come with a full-length documentary expounding on their creation, but ABBEY ROAD and LET IT BE -- and now REVOLVER -- come up very short in this department. I'll go even further and suggest more effort went into the video sets for HELP! and MYSTERY TOUR than the last three Beatle boxes. Worse, McCartney's PIPES OF PEACE -- arguably the most inconsequential album of his career as a solo artist -- received a more lavish box set treatment than the recent Fab Four deluxes! 🤣

It's coming out 9 days after my birthday, no matter, this set will count as an official birthday gift. When I told my wife the exciting news of the Revolver Super Deluxe Box Set being released next month, she sighed, really, another Beatles' box set? Don't you already have a dozen sets? No, I replied, just 4. She told me she had a great idea...since this box set is being released "after" my birthday, why not buy it for Christmas instead? I ignored her and proceeded to go to You Tube and listen to "Taxman" (2022). The song sounds terrific! Oct 28th just can't come fast enough, Caitlin. Was it that she said she said demo I think there’s two of them that are a little bit different I love hearing outtakes and demos I am a huge remix fan as well I love the Giles Martin remix of all the albums that were remixed as part of these wonderful box that’s like Sergeant peppers lonely hearts club band the White album Abbey Road and let it be.

Let me please elaborate in detail what I am saying.. Perhaps Giles should have waited a bit longer then because the demixing process either isnt up to snuff or its being mishandled for whatever reason. There are elements of the remix that are desirable, I agree, but the artifacts and some of the choices hinder this remix and the possibility of it being great. Case in point: There are artifacts most likely directly related to the demixing process. Lets look at a couple: 1. The cymbal sound has this swooshy/phasey sound to them. When the crash cymbal is hit the stereo image changes slightly. It’s not glaringly obvious, but it’s something that’s often a problem with demixing. Compare them to the original and hear for yourselves. (Which is a shame because the rest of the drums sound rather nice) 2. The guitar solo doesn't pop the way that it does in the original. The bite and character of the Vox'd guitar just sounds like its duller. 3. And due to extraction of the tamborine we have other issues: Why would you extract the tambourine out of the guitar solo instead of just putting the solo off to the side with the tambourine? The extraction of the tambourine has messed up the sound of the guitar solo and it sounds terrible. The guitar is more detailed? heh, ok. No, the tambourine being removed from the guitar solo has left jagged sounding chunks missing from parts of the solo. It sounds awful and amateur. 4. What's the point of syncing up all of the different multitrack stages if you're just going to start "demixing" other elements too and making a mess of all those clean isolated tracks. Additionally... Why did the count in need more reverb? Makes no sense. Why did Giles feel the need to remove the hum from the intro? Baffling. Vocals: They would have been better off just splitting the vocals wide with the backing track center. Literally would have taken less work than this mix and would have sounded better. Overall soundstage detriments due to the choices: By insisting on putting so much in the center: bass, drums, vocals, guitar solos etc. That doesn't really leave much for the sides. Causing a dull piled up narrowing of the soundstage. One may not like the panned out instruments in the original stereo mix but please dont tell me this remix is nearly as alive sounding as the original nor tonally improved. Its just not. Im not a fan of the original stereo mix but I dont see the above as improvements and certainly not heads and shoulders above. Boiling it down... This is the issue still with the demixing process: The demixing technology continues to leave audible artifacts, especially when different parts share similar parts of the frequency spectrum. Parts can wander subtly in stereo due to similar frequencies going to different instruments. Thus the reason you end up with weird artifacts. No its not as bad as Rock Band days. But the process and experience with the process is an issue still. It saddens me because if Giles and team had been a bit more patient we would perhaps have the artifact issues solved in the demixing process. Instead? We have all the above that will be official. Sorry, cant agree this beats the originals stereo by leeps and bounds.

Just listened to Taxman and Eleanor Rigby snippet in the new 2022 remix. In Taxman the bass was removed to the center and abnormally boosted, giving it the unnatural sound of a huge cotton swab that they are trying to hammer into your ears. The sound of the guitars has become noticeably quieter and it is not as juicy and electric as before. The drums are still in the left channel and it sounds flat. Vocals are amplified in the style of gramophone records of the era of shellac records. Hey guys, it's still rock-n-roll to me! In Eleanor Rigby they didn't fix the false vocal phrase that spoils the whole song, and strengthened the vocals. At the same time engineers eliminated the characteristic sound of Revolver instead of emphasizing it with modern technologies. My worst fears came true. After Pepper and White Album they stopped really working with sound. Abbey Road sounds very good, but it's littered with errors in the remix, Let It Be is blatantly flawed. I was hoping that Revolver would inspire to creativity like it was with Pepper remix. But my ears just hear messing around instead. For this reason I do not expect anything interesting from the upcoming remixes 1963-65. Nevertheless, these editions can be perceived as archival collections with interesting books.

Peter Jackson is simply not an audio tech nerd.

Giles tried to use demixing on the Eight Days A Week Hollywood Bowl stuff. He got it to work kind of to get rid of the screams but it wasn’t perfect. When the guys at WingNut invented their MAL technology for Get Back their AI was so powerful and learned how to recognize each sound of the boys voices and individual instruments. So Peter shared it with Giles and he was finally able to take a part the 4 track recordings.

Peter Jackson isn;t even a good filmmaker, just a big box office one. And he stole directing credit for 8 hrs of footage shot and directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, so, not many moral scruples either. Now re-editing a feature counts as a directing credit, while the real director is tagged on way down the end credits incidentally as 'director of the 1969 footage' - - i.e. all of Get Back. Any filmmaker who will do that to another director has zero credibility and zero respect for the rest of his days in my book.

Bob, stop being a Debbie downer. Taxman in original stereo sounded good. However, other tracks are unlistenable in original stereo on headphones. Therefore a proper newer mix is necessary. Just think on certain tracks bad edits will be fixed, vocals will be centered and you will hear sound effects that were on the intended mono versions. I understand you grew up with the original stereo versions…

I am really excited for this box set. Like you, I prefer the early Beatles music as opposed to their later stuff (although I am enjoying the hell out of the Get Back Blu-Ray) & haven't picked up any of the box sets as they aren't really affordable to me. This one, I may have to grab no matter what. Revolver is one of my favorites (A hard Days Night & Rubber Soul are my absolute favorite Beatles albums) and I am so looking forward to this.

I have the first issues of all the Beatles lps. I can't hear any actually improvements in any of these remasters. Certainly the original early 60s STEREO mixes were badly done, by just putting vocals on one side

After some thought I am guessing that demo is the John Lennon work tape for yellow sub 😉 I have to say Caitlin love the production quality and excitement of this video I myself am absolutely going to get groove burn on my vinyl pre order that is for sure lol it gives me ton of hope that all of the early albums will have this done but Giles is doing amazing work and you’re getting everyone so hyped in a wonderful way :) from one Beatles super fan to another you’ve sold me also happy early birthday!

I wasn’t as much Impressed with the taxman remix than previous remixes where they seemed to have extra sounds that you had never heard before. The Taxman 2022 remix sounded nice and clean with lots of high end but Giles likes to center everything. Right after I went back and listened to the 2009 remaster and I agree vocals perhaps belong in the center but something nice of having backing vocals or a guitar lick come in from the left or right.

I have to disagree, my primary means of listening is with headphones and I cannot handle a lot of the choices made on the original stereo mixes. The centered sound of the remixes is borderline essential for my listening enjoyment when I'm using headphones.

I hear many older fans deriding the new mixes, and if they love the original stereo mixes, well then, its awesome for them that they are available. For many who listen primarily on headphones, however, these new mixes are essential.

I knew as soon as I saw that conversation between Paul and John in the cafeteria in Get Back that Giles would be using this tech to do the earlier albums where possible. I asked him about it last year, but he never replied. Rude swine! Lol. But here…I'm old, and largely naive in the ways of modern advertising techniques. And I'm happy you got to hear this. But, and I don't wish to be rude, who are you to get your hands on this stuff so early? My experience of Giles' remixes are largely positive, with a few disappointments. I'm an experienced musician and recording engineer and I am intimately familiar with their work. I've listened to it and played it for almost 50 years. So, I can tell every little thing he does to the mixes. Some things work well, some I'd be listening for, and he'd have removed them. I've ordered the basic CD. If I'm impressed, I'll get the package for Christmas.

You’re right, who am I? Just a die hard Beatles fan from birth who literally knows nothing else. So taken by their music as a toddler I wanted to learn everything about them so I did. Watched every documentary out there at the age of 4, listened to every album, dissected every song until I could literally tell you what song is what in under a second by the age of 10. The Beatles are my happy place. 5 years ago or so I started making KZbin videos about my Beatles collection after seeing many others do the same. Then when TikTok became the next big social media platform I took my videos over there in which gave me the opportunity to gain a HUGE new following online which must’ve gotten the attention of the right people because now I have my own Beatles radio show on SiriusXM and work directly with Apple Records. They’re the ones who give me these things early because I worked my butt off from the age of 4, just because I like some silly little band from the 60s.

In fact, I am very happy that people your age love the Beatles. I, too, was less than 4 when I was first exposed to them. My older brother had to see them on the Ed Sullivan show, so our whole family watched. I wasn't yet 4, but I remember it, and they've been my favourite band every since. The only difference is, I saw all this unfold in real time, which was miraculous through the eyes of a child. I played their stuff on the organ at 9, and on the guitar from 14. I still do, and they will be my favourite band until the day I die. Revolver is probably my favourite album. I kinda inherited it when I was 10 from my brother, who had gone into the army. It was the original mono version, lol. But I've always loved this album. FOr a while, I gave Pepper the 'best' label, but I think it is Revolver. @@CaitlinLarkin the one really difficult thing to convey is the Zeitgeist. The Beatles evolved every album, and I'll always remember the 'what will they do next?' Vibe they had. Every bit of new music from them was like finding your most-wished for xmas present nder the tree. And as you see in Get Back, there was just too much to contain them as a band. But they went out at the top of their game and didn't become a 'legacy' act.

It possibly *could* change the game. Unfortunately the demixing technique either isnt *quite* there or its being mishandled. I know its popular to hype what Giles does. But once again he has made weird odd choices and as a drummer you should be able to hear how phasey the drums sound. The extraction of the tamborine has ate up the guitar solo and took the balls out of it. Many more, but why mention it. This is a hype video.

Me too (tambourine is there). Everything is in tact and this now sounds more like the intended mono version. That being said it’s only a subtle difference because the original Taxman in stereo sounded good.

Listen to the center channel guitar solo cut out whenever there is a tambourine hit in the right channel. It’s there, plain as day, and sounds like a tape dropout (but isn’t one, because it’s a byproduct of the demixing)

@@FleagleSangria Are you comparing the new stereo version to the mono version? I also don’t listen to the new mixes in Atmos as I don’t like Dolby. But, when I compare the newer 2022 Stereo version to the 2009 stereo remaster I don’t hear anything lost (I’m not separating the tracks L/R).
