Today we get the 1950 Chevy 5 Window Truck Cab ready for Primer. We will be feather edge sanding areas with heavy paint build up, using Catalyzed Glazing to fill in chips, scratches and small repairs and doing an overall sanding with an orbital sander and also wet sanding.

Like your work. Maybe stop once in a while and explain what you're looking for when sanding or feather edging. Maybe show a few more details. It will be more helpful for those of us who don't have as much experience. Overall, it was very helpful as was your video about the angle bed rails. I'm doing all of this on my 54 Chevy right now.

Thanks for the suggestion Ron, I will definitely try and keep everyone's experience level in mind while shooting. Send me a few pics of your project so I can show them at the end of one of my videos.

From what I know it was outside a lot of it's life. It has been owned by the same family all these years and well taken care of. No snow where it lives and not much rain unfortunately these days.

The acid etching primer you used at the end, is it rattlecan etching primer? What brand please.

Charles I looked in the cabinet and couldn't find what I used but it was a premixed etching primer. What I like to use is no longer available in my area (air board restrictions) which is a two part system. One part is Phosphoric acid and the other part is the sealer/primer. You mix it 1 to 1 and the phosphoric acid eats into the metal and also converts any oxidation and then stops then the sealer/primer seals it from the air attacking it. I used Pacific Coast Lacquer Etching Primer for years but can't get it any longer here unfortunately. If you are doing a large panel of whole car look into DTM. Direct To Metal sealer/primer is a little pricey but is a good choice and has a lot of features that make it more user friendly. Mark

What size button head bolts did you use, I'm trying to do my bed now

For the bed head board we used 8 each 1/4"-20 acorn nuts, 8 each 1/4-20 x 1/2" or 3/4" (I don't recall the length) button head bolts and 2 each 5/16"-18 acorn nuts all zinc plated so they could be painted. We also used internal tooth lock washers. Email me some pics of your project so I can showcase it at the end of a video.

How come you didn’t sand blast it since you said you had a couple bad paint jobs

With an unlimited budget and time, sandblasting down to white metal would be the best way to go of course but it would also increase costs and time by a factor of about 3. This was just supposed to be a repaint with some rust repair so that is what is being done. The owner has gone a lot farther then he originally intended to and will have an extremely nice driver when done. Like all these projects it always comes down to time and money doesn't it?
