Probably the best machine from the era. Simple but wonderfully exciting and challenging. I would pick this machine over many from the leading decades, and probably over most modern Sterns.

Nice to see one in the flesh, only played the Microsoft virtual recreation so far.

I was involved in producing the Microsoft CD It plays exactly like the original machine as do the other games. I hate Gates, but the Pinball program is a perfect substitute.

I just picked one up. It's in need of restoration, but the playfield is in great shape! I can't wait to get started on it. It's going to be one of the hilites of my collection.

I was 16 years old in 1966 and my brother-in-laws father had an old beat-up Knock Out machine in the chicken coup. He let me have it for a few years and I did a refurb on it. After a clean-up the play-field was in pretty good shape. I dedicated my spare time for the next couple of months (about 200 hours worth) and I got it working like a champ. I kept it for about three years before he asked me to return it. I kept my end of the bargain and he got a damn good refrub machine, gratis.

This looks like an awesome game, especially considering it’s age. I’ve only played it on Microsoft pinball arcade unfortunately, but I would absolutely love to find one in person.

It’s a fun game, I’ve played it at the silverball pinball arcade at asbury park

The player knows how to beat this game, it is in the kick out holes at the bottom @500,000 each. There is also a metal spotlight on the bottom of the ring that will project shadows on a wall

Only played the Microsoft Pinball Arcade recreation but it's my favorite table.

My Knockout description of how it plays was used to make the Microsoft game. Believe me, every real life shot was built into the game. In other words, it plays like the real thing. I sold my Knockout for $6200 a bit later. It is by far the best Roy Parker glass ever done.

Looking at this old tech I can't help but wonder - is it possible to launch more than 1 ball and use multiples of them at the same time?
@londonpinball7 жыл бұрын
Yes. They can all be launched onto the playfield, if that's how you'd like to play.
@cristalopez51597 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can manually feed as many balls if you want into the plunger. Your game likely wouldn't last long, though.

I bet you that I can beat that high score with my eyes closed. JK, I'm not that good at pinball.
@robertlozyniak36618 жыл бұрын
With those saucers being worth 500000 points each , I don't get why the scoreboard only goes up to 5990000. And it seems that most of your points come from those saucers. If this were my machine, I would modify it to reduce the saucers' point value, historical accuracy be damned.
@BAKU2K28 жыл бұрын
The saucers are worth 500k because the player lit both of the yellow passive bumpers by getting thw ball through the rollovers on the left and right side of the playfield... trust me, those rollovers are a tough shot.
@Renville805 жыл бұрын
Robert Lozyniak and modifying the scoring circuitry is a LOT tougher than you think. There are multiple relays and a scoring motor to take into account.
@noneofyourbusiness46223 жыл бұрын
@@Renville80 The EM machines only do one thing at a time. Shooting multiple balls simply gangs them up and if the machine is busy, it does nothing. This machine was set up to be a reasonably easy game and it was. Not designed by Wayne Neyens the best Gottlieb designer , glass and art by Roy Parker, the Carravagio of pinball artists. I sold mine for $6100 the highest price paid for any pinball at the time. I helped design the Microsoft game and believe me the game plays exactly like the real game. These 50-60s Gottliebs were the very best pinball could make. All copper dipped metal, the finest phosphor Bronze switches, self cleaning relays, the wear points are easy to fix and they last forever. The worst thing you can do to one is not play it. If you have one, just play it, it will eventually start playing well. Replace bulbs and rubbers and you are good for another 50 years. My favorites: Rocket Ship 1958, Slick Chick 1962, King of Diamonds 1967?? Dave Haynes

Things about Knockout that are little known: The two metal boxers are live participants, when the target is hit, the boxers start swinging their arms, one is knocked out flat and the referee counts the guy out with 10 strokes of his arm. There is a sheet metal lamp shade at the bottom of the ring and with a larger bulb it projects the shadow of the boxers on a wall near the machine. The best set up for all Gottlieb machines is to double up the 1" rubbers on the flippers. This allows the ball to be held with the flipper and shot directly to the right or left into the 500,000 point bucket. The Microsoft game has that shot. The backglass has many little individual stories done by Roy Parker, main theme is that the audience is beating the crap out of each other along with the boxers. This glass survives better than any other machine, and thank God for that, because that is what this game is. Playfield should be cleaned and waxed every few months use Lemon Pledge, no abrasive car wax. Bulbs that appears burned out are usually just dried out and the fiber spacer at the bottom shrinks opening the power supply, just turn the whole socket a bit and they usually turn back on. On flat wiper switches, WD40 is a marvelous lubricant. DH
