The Maxwell House ad is so perfect, you can practically analyze it frame-by-frame. The voiceover with its repetition, the use of circles, the cup moving right up to your lips, etc. Watch it a few times and see.

The percolator commercial from Maxwell House and Pontiac's 1980 'we build excitement that you've got to try' theme (also used as background music) are some of my favorites. Its a shame most commercials today either don't have it or copy a popular song to make a jingle

You know, the one thing I always wondered when I watched these commercials back in the '60's was why my Mom wasn't wearing a dress, earrings, diamond necklace, and heels when she was doing dishes, vacuuming, or cooking like all the women did in those commercials.

This is a lot of the reason of why I wished I lived in the 50's and 60's. You never had all this hassle with ads for computers, phones, or any other annoying commercials with skimpy clothes. Everything was so innocent and pure. Not all about money and companies throwing their stuff at you to buy it. I don't know how to explain it, just wished I lived it.

Good point re: job applications. As far as the e-Book readers, I have to ask myself: Aren't people tired of staring at screens? I visit the library frequently to browse, relax and learn. One doesn't get the same feeling from a Kindle, Nook or any of the other reading devices when it comes to wandering down the aisles of a good library or book store on a rainy afternoon.

That was a young Sandra Dee in the Bring home the Coke commercial. She was married to Bobby Darren, a pop, rock star in the early sixties, Mack the Knife and Splish Splash were two of his songs. She also was Tammy in some of the Tammy movies. She's the one they sing about in the movie Grease.

Do you remember that back then most products had prizes or premiums in them or you could always save boxtops to send in for cool gifts ?? I remember getting glassware in things like laundry detergent... most cereal had prizes inside. Even candy had prizes or cards, comics,etc inside. I can even remember getting premiums at the gas station w/a fill up.

We used to use it in HS in the '70's for '50's nights; it took at least 3 washes to get the damned stuff out of your hair. I still remember my uncles using it all the time in the '60's. I'll take blow dry any day.

After throwing out alot of Mr Coffee machines , that stop working or burn up, i bought an old 1960's electric perculator . It works great . And makes better tasting coffee , it pushes the coffee up and over the grounds over and over, something a drip machine doesnt do . But they dont turn off on there own ,they just stay on warm,so you have to remember to unplug them.

Life was better back then for america. The economy's gone to shit. People just say they like the 50's because it was a time. When the government took less of our freedoms. Today you need a permit, liscense, or tax for damned near everything. The cars were beauts and the music was filled with so much life.

Don't forget how short the commercial breaks were. They were usually about a minute or so. And they were very short, simple and sweet. Nowadays, the commercial breaks are just way too long and they're more elaborate Hollywood-style colleagurs
