Amazing! I remember some of the last trains that used the Monarch Branch in the 80's before CF&I closed down the blast furnaces. When I first started working at CF&I in the mid 90's my 1979 Chevy company truck was the foreman of the Monarch Quarry's truck.

Some of the portions of the line were saved that being the Durango and sliverton and the Cumbres & Toltec

The Monrach Branch job from Salida to the Quarry and return would usually take 6-8 hours for the crews. BUT there were plenty of times it took much longer. We lived in Salida from 1950-53.
