It’s gone up now, the fine is now 6/7d (for the younger viewers, that’s 6 shillings and 7 pence, which in this new fangled modern money is about 33 pence!)

Bylaw from the 1950's. Who had a drone then!? 😂
@steveharrod69113 сағат бұрын
ah yes must have been someone flying a very early DJI prototype and they took a long time developing it. what utter nonsense, if he says theres a bylaw he needs to prove it.

I remember my grandad saying he had lots of problems flying his drone in the 50's, makes sense now
@djpj91744 сағат бұрын
Just so you know for future reference. Unless said bylaw specifically relates to unmanned aerial vehicles it's completely worthless and 100% any 1950's one, unless it's been updated, which is highly unlikely, would not reference them. Trust me. I've had extensive correspondence with various councils (and the NT) regarding their outdated and meaningless bylaws. Bylaws, by their very nature have to be specific to item, pastime or leisure activity such as ball games, dogs on leash, motorised vehicles etc. That's why if you check on the 'What Do they Know' freedom of information website you can check which councils have specific drone bylaws in place and 99% of them don't.

The bye-laws for that area does refer to UAs.
@MrSpongeHead9 минут бұрын
There's a bye-law from '70s that applies in that area. The bye-laws for drones in whatever area you are flying can easily be checked.

Someone has raised an FOI request back in march and the park bylaw definition is ‘power driven model aircraft’ means any model aircraft driven by combustion of petrol vapour or other combustible substances’. It must cover very old fashioned drones :-)
@SimonRobertLane3 сағат бұрын
I found the same one, seems to be from the 70s and I'm not even sure it applies to this park! Even if it did I posit that, as a general principle of law, bylaws with respect to a geographical area only apply to people within that area so flying from outside always OK. Same situation as National Trust.
@springfieldaerial66902 сағат бұрын
yep, thats what most bylaws state
@maunsell24Сағат бұрын
I've read the response to that FoIA request. The definition mentioned above appears in the Swindon Borough Council Byelaws relating to Recreation Grounds and Open Spaces which came into effect on 1st November 1973. Unfortunately for Al, Lydiard Park is NOT on the list of places named. The Byelaws for Lydiard Park were made by Thamesdown Borough Council and came into effect on 1st December 1979.There is no clause whatsoever therein which refers to aircraft of ANY description. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why Al took himself off: there was no way he could produce a document to support his b/s.
