1950s Hand Strength Trainer "Vipody" - Restoration

Here is a new video !!
This is a rare vintage hand strength trainer from the brand Vipody. I don't have more info about that object.
It comes from the 50's.
I though it would be an easy project but I spent 3 weeks on that one :)
It was in very bad shape, pretty much rusted.
The whole item was fully riveted so I had to disassemble it then make new rivets.
I love that object and I realize now that I need to practice :)

I have never seen a hand strength trainer like that before. You did a great job of restoring it to working order, and it looks much better too. It lights up when the "needle" touches the screw on the indicator dial. Excellent work.

I have a modern one that is simply a big hard coiled spring with hard plastic handles. Actually helps with the pain I have in my elbows. This one was way more complicated than I thought possible. Great to see you restore it and how much used to go into making what we think of today as a basic hand strengthening tool/toy.

Vipody was manufactured in the mid 1960s in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy by my grandfather's brother. His name was Ivo Demenego, and he had a wrought and ornamental iron company. I never understood why he decided to make Vipody, but it was that little company's only product. I had one for awhile but somehow disappeared. Funny to see one now. Thanks for the video.

My grandfather (who passed away in late 2021), always had a usual type of hand trainer on hand (pardon the pun) if he has time to exercise. I wonder what his reaction is if he saw that kind of trainer & his grip strength on the dial if he's still alive
