I decided to import this Japanese Toshiba FP-3011GA preheat circline fluorescent pendant light fixture into the USA for my collection because the seller had said that the fixture was manufactured in 1955, which makes it one of the first circline fluorescent fixtures that were commercially available for the Japanese domestic market since circline fluorescent lamps were first introduced into Japan sometime in the 1950s. I also decided to get it because although it is designed for 9 inch 30W FCL30 circline fluorescent lamps that are meant to run off of 100V series inductor ballasts, it uses normal 2 pin P21 base fluorescent starters instead of the more common E17 intermediate screw base fluorescent starters used in most Japanese preheat fluorescent fixtures that use 100V series inductor ballasts. According to some vintage 1950s Japanese Toshiba domestic lighting catalogs and brochures, these early circline fluorescent pendant light fixtures were often installed by unscrewing an incandescent lamp from a bare hanging E26 base socket, then screwing in a screw-in outlet adapter into the hanging incandescent socket, then plugging the fixture into the screw-in outlet adapter, and then hanging the pendant light fixture right next to the bare hanging incandescent socket. Although the fixture was supplied with a Panasonic circline lamp, I decided to install one of my modern Toshiba circline fluorescent lamps in the fixture for good measure.
