I read that story about liz petty whoopin tiny with her purse in richards autobiography lol. Lotta good stories in there. Cale yarboroughs autobiography was even more wild (true or not, idk 😂). Like the car that supposedly flew thru a clowns mouth painted on a billboard

Probably should mention that under the system of the time, relief drivers would share points with the starter, which probably explains why Herb wanted to take over his brother's car so badly.

idk why but i really like the idea of a car number ending with a fraction. maybe when i get my race car i’ll see if the track people let me use a number like 3 1/2 lol

In the 70"s at my local track if an out of towner showed up with a duplicate number on his car they often added that 1/2

Back in 02 or 03 the was an "X" car at a local dirt track. Same race and same field also had a 10 car so it couldn't've been like a roman numeral for ten

Older gentleman I know once told me the story of how him and his friends borrowed his dad's brand-new '58 Cadillac, drove it to Daytona, and parked it on the beach a mile down from the road course and walked to spectate the 1958 Daytona race. Upon returning to where they'd parked the Cadillac, they discovered the tide had come in, and the car was swamped with water almost up to its windows. He had a long talk from his father after that one...

Now they need to rest every 25 laps. But when you control the nascars parts monopoly you want to make sure the cars stay bunched up to bring out more cautions. The more wrecks the more those few places they all now have to buy their parts from the hand pricked parts suppliers that nascar makes them all buy from. It's not about the race anymore it's about nascar taking the drivers and fans for all their worth. My Uncle raced stock cars and race boats we are a family that used to watch NASCAR before most people even knew about it. We have traveled to 8 different Nascar tracks to see races live with yearly tickets to Daytona/Speed Week and I can't watch it anymore. The greats have mostly all moved on. There used to be so many different ways a race could be won, Stuff like "Short Pitting" "Fuel Mileage" Even just super fast cars like Bill Elliot coming back from 2 laps down to win under long green flag run at Talladega . Sometimes just plain luck gets the win or 2 tires instead of 4. Now the winner is just the guy who was able to avoid the most wrecks that day..
