1950s New Zealand Landscapes and Cities in Cinerama's South Seas Adventure (1958)

American tourist Jim Parry (Perry?) recounts his stories of exploring the country of New Zealand, 15 years after a brief time spent at an NZ hospital. Features rare aerial footage of major cities like Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland from this era. The narrator at the very start introducing Jim is legendary actor Orson Welles, the narrator of South Seas Adventure.

During World War II, the civilian resources of allied nations that had not been conquered by Germany and Japan were dedicated to supporting the war effort. And by the late 1950s, when this film was released, people were still very much aware of the world war; still thankful that the Allied nations had won. This segment is told from the viewpoint of an American World War II veteran who served in the Pacific theatre. He returns to New Zealand 15 years after the time he spent as a patient in an Allied military hospital. He would have been brought to the hospital to be treated either for a battle injury or for a tropical disease, such as malaria, which many soldiers contracted during their tours of duty.
