1952 Cadillac Convertible
This past weekend, Wray and Esteban went to pick up a 1952 Cadillac Convertible from Wrays friend. The car has been sitting in the garage since 1965. Looking at the car the rust isn't too bad, mostly surface rust that we'll remove with naval jelly The wheels wouldn't move so with the help of a torch, hammer and pulley Wray managed to free everything up and put new tires on so the car would roll. He loaded it up onto the trailer to bring it home to ProShaper.

A 52 Caddy Convertible, towing a 66’ Century to the lake.. see where I’m going with this, Wray? Excellent garage find, you clearly don’t have enough projects going at the same time :)

I have a 51 sedan parts car. Not sure what trim is the same, I believe the goddess on the hood is, if you need parts.that is a great find!!!

trims are specific to 2 doors I'm afraid, but I'm sure Wray would have ways to shorten the rare stainless pieces so that they look legit... The zamac pieces (fake air scoops) are a pain if you have to braze or fill them.

When I was 18 my brother was into American cars we met this guy who had loads of American cars in a big warehouse , I couldn't drive a car as only had a bike licence so my brother used to take me down in his 64 Chevy Chevelle Malibu , he was into 50's 60's Caddies and Chryslers he had 3 57 Imperial crowns various other US cars , he found out I was a panel beater and showed me a Mustang he had crashed on a half built flyover , the thing was like a banana asked could I repair it , I was shocked at the thought and said no way mate , he sold a rotten old 4 door 61 or 2 caddy to a couple of brothers who spent over a year welding it up , think they had to make the whole bottom of the car half way up the doors , even had to patch the bumpers , seen it on the road not a straight panel or gap on the car . We used to go to a guy who bought cars and scrap from the US bases , he told us he bought 8 WW2 Jeeps , he even bough dentists chairs , showed me a mobile radar station his was scrapping for the gold in it , my brother was going to buy a late 70's Chrysler police , then wanted to buy a school bus V8 petrol took me forever to talk him out it . Sorry for prattling on , looking forward to the rest of the build .

I'll be looking forward to this, I brought a '51 Coupe de Ville from my stay in the US and bought a '51 conv from Switzerland just after that (lots of salt there so much rust, I'm hoping to use the Coupe as a pattern)... long term project though, started more than 20 years ago

This convertible is in very good condition, once we uncover the floor pans in the passenger and trunk compartments there might be zero rust holes. I'm not 100% sure yet, I need to clean all of the debris out.

@@proshaper fwiw the drum brakes have a self adjusting mechanism which may be why you had difficulties to take them out, one usually has to undo the starlike wheel with a screwdriver via a small window in the flange from the inside... I love the whole range of systems in these cars, hydraulic seats, windows and top, but also vacuum operated wipers and radio antenna (among the options were the autronic eye, for automatic dimming of the lights when someone was coming in the other direction...) - the Delco tube radio had a single selector (Wonderbar) for changing stations... As for the trims, you'll know that they were changing the designs every years back in these glorious days, so interchange between 51, 52, 53 (and 50) is not always as one would hope for outside trim parts (esp. stainless). Engine wise, my Coupe still occasionnally runs and has been converted to 12V while retaining its 6V starter motor : these are really strong and so far, so good, this let me crank quite fast which help starting the 331 on old fuel once a year or so (I manually fill the bowl, upgraded to 4 barrel Rochester in my case, like 52s possibly). 1952 came with power steering I believe, which is a quite convenient enhancement for parking. It was Cadillac 50 years anniversary, so the hood and trunk "V"s would be gold rather than chrome.

Skat left by raccoons, wear a high quality breathing mask. The dust cleanup may contain the eggs from raccoon round worms. You don't want to ingest, or breath in any of these. Search the internet to see what I'm talking about.
