Thank you Lou for this great video. Even though it was commissioned for Eisenhower in October 1951when he was still a General, they probably weren't aware that he would decide to leave the service in early 1952 to run for President . It was nice they conveyed this car to President Eisenhower in appreciation of his service for personal use, probably for when he was staying at his Gettysburg home. This after it being displayed at the Paris car show in 1953. I have two other Eisenhower limousines I will email you information about for possible future videos. The official White House limousine, a 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan stretch bubble top and a 1955 Crown Imperial Derham sunroof special. Both in museums.

I am a retired 65 year old African American male who resides in Macon Bibb County Georgia and I grew up around the African American leadership in Atlanta and Macon Georgia who were influential members of the community and who drove expensive cars. I can appreciate the cars that were made in the 1950s and the 1960s for I rode in many of them as a child during the late 1950s and through decade of the 1960s. I admire white men such as yourself who have so a passion in the restoration of these vintage cars and the male bonding that surround you guys in the promotion of your hobby. As an African American male is not a part of this car culture I spend hours viewing the Utube post of related videos like yours. Please keep the projects going. I will subscribe to your channel.

Holy smokes... this is like out of this world. Shiny! This is great car to store groceries in the trunk... roomy! The interior... I like how it's full of seats (I like being around friends and family)... and President Eisenhower sat in this limo... it's a piece of history. Cigarette lighter?!? Someone has has to roll the windows or the smell would ruin this beauty. Have luck in winter time... hahaha! Interesting how the hood reveals it's objects for it to run the car altogether. Engine is good, exhaust is great. Also, for the other cars, it's great for classic enthusiasts to take pictures or film it. Nice how the bar is a classic boat... Loved video you never disappoint Sir! I would like to visit this museum. Cadillacs always have been my favorite luxury cars particularly ones from the 50's. Have to add some always point out how big these cars were. Maybe because I am a native Texan all I see is a well preserved classic. The size is not that big of a deal!

Lou -- great vid, thanks. The coachbuilder that stretched and modified it was Derham (not Durham) in Rosemont, PA. Enos Derham actually kept the business afloat until the 1970's.

Not really sure if this was "streched." It looks like the standard Series 75 long-wheelbase factory-built car, heavily modified by Derham. I understand Derham also modified 60 Special Cadillacs, and some very pretty Packard Patrician sedans.

I have that limousine in 1/43 scale , that i bought at a hobby shop over twenty years ago , the guy told me that it was President Eisenhower's limousine ., It says Cadillac Series 75 1950 on the bottom of this car , made in France . It is now missing the left tail light lens , and right rear tire , over the years of it being in moves , and such doesn't have the continental kit on it though .

Go back and listen/read the instriuctions for jacking this monster. You're using the BUMPER as a fulcrum to lift a 6,000 pound car - and it works. Who's got a strong chassis, then, eh? Cadillac was still bumper-jacking in the 1970s....and look again under the hood: air conditioning, when most movie theaters still weren''t air conditioned. That's why Cadillac (then) was called The Standard Of The World. Not Rolls-Royce; Cadillac. Count the number of heat exchangers, too. Five, I think?

Lou, you said this car has a vinyl top??? I would assume it is leather not vinyl?? Yes? No? BTW, i have never seen a lock on the reflector push button for the tail light gas filler access!!! None of my 54 Caddys have one!!! I also think that those screws on the jump seat backs aren’t original?? Doesn’t look very finished with screw heads showing. This car would be magnificent if it were properly restored!! The lightly pitted chrome inside would make a huge difference if re chromed. I realize it would cost a fortune to do a full restoration but doing the smaller things would make a huge difference in a car like this that deserves it!

Davidpar2: I just saw this video and your comment. You are incorrect in your data, sir. Although not yet standard, power steering was in fact introduced by Cadillac in 1952 and most cars *were* equipped with the power steering option. You can see the power steering pump and reservoir at 12:14 and again at 14:05 when they start the engine. One thing that was NOT available in 1952 was Air conditioning from the factory. Although Cadillac had a few (very few) pre-WWII 1941 and 1942 Cadillacs with Air conditioning, they were experimental vehicles and very low production. They were sent to Bishop and Babcock in Cleveland Ohio to be added after production. Cadillac did not reintroduce Air conditioning until 1953: and it was also available on Ninety Eight Oldsmobiles and Buick Roadmasters. I would have to speculate that due to this being sent to Durham Coach builders to be stretched and equipped for President Eisenhower, that Air conditioning was added after factory production. I once read that President’s wife Mamie Eisenhower had a dress ruined from condensation dripping from the roof A/C outlets on an early 50’s Cadillac limousine. I would have to guess that this was the car!

Hey you all. I’m a big limo fan. Of course I love all the genres of vehicles, but the limo is just soooo luxury and comfort. This Caddy is obviously original and can’t imagine what it would cost to restore. I did notice on the closeups the chrome pitting, the bubbles along the roof line and other pieces like kick panels warped from years of humidity changes. I guess that’s not bad patina for such an old original car. A couple questions. Do presidential vehicles get sold or are they usually moth balled into storage? Is it possible this car had several owners to have that many miles on it? The yank you for the great display.

3/2023......Wow! This car inspired me to replicate it in FOAM rubber. I began my furniture building and Art career, by creating a "soft sculpture" chair, based on this car. Of course I shortened it to only include the front end, & front windshield. To make it into a chair,....which resembled a throne of sorts, the engine hood (area) was removable, because that is where a person could sit. My creation was 100% foam rubber,....no wood understructure. It is almost the exact scale of a real car. All the details, bumpers, wheels, (chrome parts), are also foam rubber. And the finished chair/sculpture is the color of raw foam rubber which is kind like the color of cheese,....an off-white,..pale yellow. I built it in 1975, and it was used secure my BFA in Fine Arts, at Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio. Foam rubber ages, and the color changes from oxidation, (exposure to air). It wasn't meant to last 20 years,....It looked the best for about 10 years. Eventually it deteriorated,....crumbled into (crumbly bits) and had to be thrown out. I took a million photos, and I submitted them to gain entrance into graduate school in Fine Arts, as a part of my portfolio. I attended The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio, & I earned my MFA from there in 1979. I wowed my professors at the time, as working with raw foam rubber, is difficult. I was able to cut the basic shapes on an industrial band saw, then I fine tuned the shapes with an electric carving knife. My mother gave me her electric carving knife. I applied a light silicon lubricant to the blades to aid in cutting the foam. To fine tune the rounded bumper shapes, I was able to use an electric bench sander. (A wood shop tool), with fine grit sanding belts. It's too bad I can't post a photo into this site.

​@@loucostabile I don't think it was bulletproof. Even JFK's 1961 Lincoln stretch convertible didn't have bulletproof windows. They made it bulletproof for LBJ after the assassination. That would be a good car for a future video visit. It is in the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan.

Gentlemen: nice video ...however...some of us wish that people would learn the differences between a Limo and a 7-passenger Sedan. This car is NOT a limo...there is no divider window...the chauffeur's compartment is not black leather upholstery. This is a 7-passenger 75 Sedan...Anyone who is knowledgeable about automobiles would know these facts. Finally, I doubt sincerely that GM would have used white leather in 1952.

All thru the 50's most American cars had gas fillers fitted in the rear.ie.behind tail lights,license plates.They were eventually done away with because of safety factors being rear end collisions.Cadillac also gave IKE the first Eldorado convertible(1953).

One of the best car stories! Great piece of our history! So interesting, looking inside this masterpiece I can almost see the amazing man inside. Love the cool features on this classic custom treat! The water through the glove box is super neat, seems ahead of it's time. The leather is lovely. And the bumper is very sharp. Great light with that button to open, I'd have never known it was there... too cool! I enjoyed the brochures, a blast to look through. A beautiful vehicle all around... it has importance written all over it! Love the vid, lots of fun. Thank you!

I had a school teacher, in the mid 60s with 5 kids and she drove a 52 Cadillac limo, big cars. Eisenhower liked Cadillacs , he rode in a new Eldorado when he was sworn in as President

Thank you. The best video I have ever seen. This 1952 Cadillac is a fantastic car. When I was 8 years old, my father bought a 1952 Fleetwood Sixty Special. He had tremendous acceleration and the speedometer marked more than 110 miles per hour on open roads. This Cadillac was much better than a Mercedes Benz 300 B year 1954 by the President of Chile, my dad's uncle

Was just watching a classic Peter Falk Columbo episode, "Suitable For Framing." Lots of screen-time is spent on "murderer"/art critic Ross Martin's, dark blue, '54 Mercedes-Benz 300b. This car also shows up on old "Mission Impossible" episodes, circa 1967. Automatic, Borg-Warner transmission added almost $1500 in 1954 dollars (about $12,000 in 2021) to the already steep price.

@@loucostabile -I am trying to find info on the coachbuilder "Derham.. A name I never heard before. One thing is for certain, in 1952-'53 Cadillac was without a doubt building one of the finest cars in the world. This was- for the time- up to the minute technology and styling. The 1952-53 Lincoln's looked good too, but this takes it all to a higher level.

Checking further, I've read that the car was never used by IKE while he was President due to the lack of safety features. One article says he did ride in it before he took office, while Truman was President; rather, while President, he used a Lincoln Cosmopolitan limo with a glass top for most of his 8 years in office. Another article says that this Caddy limo recently sold for $55,000.

"Formal Sedans" per the factory, were Series 75 long wheelbase cars with extra fold-out rear seats but without the glass partition/division and the traditional black leather driver's seat.

The set-up looks perfect for International tourism that caters to Car Clubs wanting to get steeped in Americana for what the Industry could do to meet the changing needs of American families for transportation that included the basic same Sedans from the show rooms that were made into a Taxi . My mid 1970's Honda Civic had a list of shortfalls for the upper State cold weather and a fuel tank size not designed for the long highway drives with just an 8 gallon limit. Even today....the GREEN cars used for a Taxi in my City are usually the 5 passenger 4 doors that have a small trunk opening and no room for luggage where people use the Airport Limos or Mini-vans that are the Accessible types Taxi . The only thing missing is a small Roof-top wooden deck patio for about 15 people to get some Sun on a nice warm day or catch the twilight canopy of dotted Stars for that Convertible feel at dusk in the car-like padded bench much like a 64 T-bird back seat . Plus the wet-bar for pre-paid drink by Tickets to know how many to stock in a cooler.

Davidpar2: I just saw this video and your comment. You are incorrect in your data, sir. Although not yet standard, power steering was in fact introduced by Cadillac in 1952 and most cars *were* equipped with the power steering option. You can see the power steering pump and reservoir at 12:14 and again at 14:05 when they start the engine. One thing that was NOT available in 1952 was Air conditioning from the factory. Although Cadillac had a few (very few) pre-WWII 1941 and 1942 Cadillacs with Air conditioning, they were experimental vehicles and very low production. They were sent to Bishop and Babcock in Cleveland Ohio to be added after production. Cadillac did not reintroduce Air conditioning until 1953: and it was also available on Ninety Eight Oldsmobiles and Buick Roadmasters. I would have to speculate that due to this being sent to Durham Coach builders to be stretched and equipped for President Eisenhower, that Air conditioning was added after factory production. I once read that President’s wife Mamie Eisenhower had a dress ruined from condensation dripping from the roof A/C outlets on an early 50’s Cadillac limousine. I would have to guess that this was the car!
