1953 BSA D1 Bantam 125cc at Andy Tiernans

I love the BSA Bantam. I bought my first one when I was 16 in the '60s, I paid five pounds for it, and I also got a pair of gauntlets and a helmet. The tax for it was 10 shillings and the insurance cost me one pound and ten shillings. The Bantam gave me the freedom to go where I wanted to for very little cost. I have had many great motorcycles over the years but the BSA Bantam was my favourite. I am 77 now but I will never forget my Bantam.

My old classmate's dad had a D1 just like this from new. He did his 30 mile commute to and from SW 1 (London) every day till he retired in the early '70's. If my memory serves me right, it had all stages of rebores and other repairs during it's life span. Unfortunately I don't know the fate of this old bike now. Nice video.

It was ACTUALLY 123CC I DID MY TEST ON MINE 1954, AND YES IM A WOMAN, it was restored also had a 1969 d175 only woman to do test on a d1 apparantly uk 1986

I think you will find that most if not ALL manufacturers rounded up the capacity of the engines

@@peterranson4365 you are correct, just a snobby cow, Me I mean xx people always looked down on me with bikes from bsa D1, D175,. Cos I was a woman basically, so sorry, no offence.
