I picked this 1953 Chevy 3100 pickup truck up a few months ago in Huron, SD where it had sat for many years. The wiring was ripped out, the gauges had been removed, and it did not run. In a few videos back, we got this 6cyl 235 to run again, but the carburetor leaked badly. In this video, I showcase some of the new wiring, as well as taking apart and replacing the worn out gauges, and finally we can hear this sweet engine run again now with a rebuilt carb. This old Chevy truck is close to being able to be driven again on the road, after sitting for so many years!
Thanks for watching!

I would leave the truck paint the way it is. You are certainly a busy young man, and I can see the Iowa work ethic.

7:45 little trick I learned while you have speedometers or gauges or clusters apart, is to clean and paint the unseen surfaces inside, where you scraped off the old beige paint. If you want the gauge to be a little easier to read, you can use a brighter white paint, or if you want it to really pop (without changing to LED bulbs...ick) you can use the bumper chrome spray paint. Then the stock bulbs reflect off that and make it a lot easier to read at night, at least for us old people.

These are really cool old trucks. I restored a '54 years ago but then they didn't have all the accessories they do now. Today I would replace the front axle and the whole drive train to enable highway speeds and better comfort.

I don't mind PATINA, as long as, (preferably) the ORIGINAL functions perfect.

Ryan, you didn't really explain the reason for uglifying the speedo face with painter's tape. Sorry, but it completely ruins (imo) what otherwise would be a cool retro display. Can't show MPH in a land of KPH? How ridiculous is that? Plenty of old cars that have found their way to the States that only show KPH, not a big deal. Hope you're going to install grommets where wires go through firewall.

Sorry yeah the truck is going to europe and cant display mph, i know its ugly, but, it shows some km/h, so something is bettrr than nothing and it wont damage the face of the dial

Thanks for the update. Automotive electrical work can be tedious, but is so rewarding when it works well. That ‘59 chassis is looking great.

The blue tape on the speedo is really ugly!

I dont disagree, but it wont ruon the face of the dial and no one currently makes a kmh speedo, so unless he custom prints something, this is the kinda thing that will have to do

@IowaClassicCars , the original engine only had 15 pounds of oil pressure. With the 235, as long as it is pegged at the 30, you're good. The 235 usually runs 35 pounds normal oil pressure. Just out of curiosity, is the new fuel gauge already wired for 12 volts? Also, I'll be looking forward to glass installation videos. My 51 needs new front and rear glass, and that's something I don't know how to do yet. As always, I enjoy your videos.
