1953 Ford Rat Rod - Satin Black Tractor Paint Job At Home - Start to Finish

In this video I paint a 1953 Ford Customline RatRod with Tractor Majik Matte Black Paint. I used the recommended Tractor Majik Reducer and Hardener at a ratio of 32 oz paint, 8 oz reducer, and 2 oz hardener.
This is the whole job. There's some before and after photos added on at the end.

I agree! It was a cheap way to go, but is bulletproof and looks great. Also, that sheen hides some imperfections!

Thanks! Those glossy bits were rattle-canned, with proper prep and conditions. I'm happy with how it all came together.

Yes, a lot of work that no one knows about, agreed. Lots of sanding, sanding, sanding. What color is on the interior of the doors, that would also be a good color. Paint gun failed, air compressor part failed, cold temperatures, high humidity, but you did it.

Everything sounds easy, till you try it! The interior doors are green. I ended up selling this for $22K, which I was well pleased with.

Yeah, I did do a black X pattern vinyl headliner. It looked really goo when it was done, so I'm not sad about it. The fur would've been epic!

Yeah, it was a super sweet ride. It's crazy how much better it looks after five or six hundred bucks, and a few weeks of work. Almost like a whole different car.

Too good, I'm painting my car that color I've been given a 2:1 satin black as well hardener. I'm lost on how much harderner to use any tips on how much I'm from N.Z Thanks for sharing this beast

That turned out fantastic! Really appreciate you taking the time to post the video! Your description says Satin but the paint looked like it was Matte; did the hardener add a bit of gloss making it satin? If you added the hardener to an already satin paint do you think it would be too close to gloss? Thanks!

I believe it was a combo of the hardener and the reducer that adds the sheen to the paint. From what I read, it is caused more by the reducer than the hardener. I don't think it would bring a paint that starts as satin to a gloss, but it certainly would push it into or close to the semi gloss level.

Lowe's sells thicker sheets of plastic that are huge. They're not cheap, but there isn't another decent option.
