Many long-time fans would recognize a player from these old highlights who actually played in a Super Bowl---George Blanda. But there was a second one as well. Green Bay QB Babe Parilli was Joe Namaths' backup in 1968 & actually took one snap from center in SB III.

Green Bay's other QB, Tobin Rote, is the only QB to win an NFL title in 1958 with the Lions; and an AFL title in 1963 with the Chargers.

@@tygrkhat4087 In terms of degree of difficulty, I think Tobin Rote having Green Bay's all-time highest average yards gained per rush is his greatest accomplishment, considering Green Bay's team at the time was in their sorry Swiss cheese Siberia decade of not playing good football.

I was 8 when these games were played. While I remember some of these names it was still great memories. Thank you!!

Great memory seeing more of Baltimore QB#20 George Taliferro @17:41-46 eluding LA pass-rushers including the legendary #84 Andy Robustelli. Lucky to see that action in that Fog Bowl Prequel. Wish we could have seen Taliferro QB a good team. The 1951 NY Yanks (1-9-2) turned 1952 Dallas Texans (1-11) turned 1953 Baltimore Colts (3-9) were not ideal teams to play QB on with success. @18:01-06, LA CB#81 legendary Night Train Lane eludes blocker and runs down ball carrier to prevent TD on his side of the field.

Pretty impressed that the bears kicked a FG from the 38 and had 10 yards to spare
@plntntvzn3 ай бұрын
Back then perhaps that was impressive, considering even the legendary Blanda was otherwise 6 for 19 in FGs in 1953. We know Blanda's FG kicking would eventually improve over the next decades, perhaps FG kicking was in general underdeveloped in 1953, I promise the punting was underdeveloped, 5-second hang time on punts, if that long.

Did teams not have road white jerseys back then?

I believe the concept of home/road jerseys didn't take full hold until games were widely televised.

The Redskins swept the Giants in 1953 and would not do so again until 1971.

Few facemasks

1953 was the first year facemasks made a very limited introduction. It supposedly was a midseason debut starting with Cleveland's Otto Graham. He's the only one I can even be sure is wearing one here.

49ers had a very good team in '53. Not as good as the Lions though.
@JIMOTOOLE19499 күн бұрын
All 49ers' losses in 1953 were to teams which reached the championship game, two to Detroit and one to Cleveland.
