I find it interesting that the 1930’s toys tested negative for lead paint but the ‘newer’ 1950’s toys were positive. Your work is top of the line and always a pleasure to watch from start to finish.

I have heard of vehicles held together with "bailing wire and spit", but this is the first one I've seen-outside of the old jalopy that the Beverly Hillbillies rode around in. Also, that particular toy would have been part of a collection, but boys can be rough to their toys. I played with my trucks until the wheels came off. I still miss the 32 Ford pickup, Willys Jeep and 65 stepside pickup. Great job Chip. Thank you for your interesting Sunday mornings.

First time I have ever seen metal wheels like that on a Tonka. Also first time I have seen lead paint on one too. I enjoyed watching you fabricate the needed items, especially the floor. Looks really sharp with the metal slats! For some reason I can hear the sheep yelling "Wheeeee!" as you toss them in there. Excellent retoration!
@williamharris83673 жыл бұрын
My impression was that the lead was in the orange repaint (not the original red), but there was no practical way to remove one and not the other. In another video/channel, a toy car had acrylic over lead paint. The stripper used removed only the top layer, leaving the lead paint beneath untouched.

I had that Tonka and a gas tanker, bought from a defunked toy shop, along with a fleet of Smith-Miller trucks. Still have the "Smittys"...traded off the Tonks for two more Smitty's. Loved these...had them as a child back in the 50's. Smith-Miller's slogan was "Famous Trucks in Miniature". Plant was in Santa Monica, Ca. Your "rebirth" is better that when it left the Tonka Factory!
