1953 Villiers Midget 2-stroke engine

Hi all,
I saw this engine for sale and I couldn’t resist but buy it. Been an engine I have wanted in the collection for a while
It needs a general clean and tidy and will he good to go for a few rallies

Great little engines, had one years ago which I added a second flywheel to. Much more powerful than they look, had an old ATCO mower powered by one, it would drag me along on a roller behind it at some speed... Some mates and I raced some of those mowers powered by these across a rallyfield late one night years ago, they'll go faster than you can run..

Yeah for their size they do seem to have plenty of power which you wouldn’t expect looking at them That sounds like fun. I Can see why this was once wanted as a go kart engine

Did you get this from a chap in west yorkshire ? Castleford ??

What cooled the head?

On earlier engines a small belt driven cooling fan but on the later type like this one it relies on heat dissipation from the cylinder head and the 2-stroke oil to maintain a reasonable working temperature

What fuel ratio do you recommend for this ?

Believe it is 16/1

16/1 SAE 30 engine oil but i use modern 2 stroke oils at this ratio and thy're just fine
