Disassembling the hydraulic top cover on the 4000 row-crop project and getting it ready for paint and rebuild.
All 1955-1964 tractors should be the same.
Cylinder and reassembly/adjustment videos to follow.

I just gotta say, your videos are the most detailed and helpful out there on KZbin. A lot of other channels skip over the important stuff. Really appreciate what you are doing, it has helped me out a ton on my 641. I was able to rebuild my power steering and hydraulics.

Thank you. I'm glad videos help you rebuild your tractor. A lot of videos aren't very detailed, so when I set our to do these, I made sure to add as many details as I could.

Got a 1962 FSM that I'm rebuilding the hydraulic cover on. Popped the top cover off and the LH arm fell off practically. 2 months later, I'm still heating, tapping, PB-Blastering, applying pressure, etc. to get the RH arm off. No lottery ticket for this old dude...

New question for the 800 top cover disassembly. I'm trying to pull the check valve seat using a 3" 3/8 x 24 cap screw, fine threads. Threads in just fine. Using washers as spacers measured the distance in to the valve seat as I turned the bolt. It's coming out but with increasing resistance. Then I noticed the end threads on the bolt are getting ground down. I assumed the valve seat was threaded its entire length and would just ride up the threads of the bolt til it came out. It appears not to be so and once the bolt reaches the non-threaded end of the valve seat it starts to bore its way through that section. Doing it the way you are showing in the video by using a nut on a doubled ended, threaded stud makes more sense. Threading the stud into the seat and using the nut to pull from the outside would avoid the problem I seem to be having unless I'm not understanding how to use the bolt.
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Once you thread the bolt into the valve the bolt should not turn anymore. You'll need a nut to put on the bolt first then the washers/socket then turn the nut while holding the head of the bolt stationary. This will cause the nut to thread off the bolt and in turn push the bolt outward from the top cover and pull the valve with it.

You mention telling us how you r & r the cam follower pin. I am trying to do just that on an 800. It doesn't want to drive out with the assembly still in the top cover so I will follow your steps to get the assembly out. What is the best way for removing the pin once it's out? Can I expect it to get driven out pretty easily once I get it horizontal and apply more force? If you have a video showing the procedure please share the link. Thanks very much for this video it's very helpful.

My assembly video shows driving the cam pin out and installing a new one with the assembly out. To me its easier to drive it out with a punch once its removed vs trying to do it still in the top cover. I work on it around minute 19. Here's a link to that video. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZu3iYiao8tlbs0

Can you change the lift arm bushings without taking off the cover? Thank you!
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic 4 ай бұрын
It's possible to do it but you'll have a hard time sliding the old bushings out. Driving new ones in would be no problem but you'd have to get creative on removing the old ones.

I've gotten parts from just8ns, stiener tractor, and yesterday's tractor. All seem to be of like quality so usually search for best price and availability. Also get a lot of used parts off ebay.

You said one shouldn't touch that bolt on top of that small cover that has some oil rings the cover that receives the oil from the pan, that bolt on top, well i touched it how do i do about it ???
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic Жыл бұрын
I didn't mess with it because it doesn't have to come off to get the top plate off. If you removed it and it has an o-ring I'd replace it. I don't think those are pipe thread but if yours is just put some thread sealer on it and you should be good to go.

Hello from Northern British Columbia Canada CHM I have a 1960 Fordson Dexta with the 3 cylinder diesel, my hydraulic top cover is the same as your tractor, could you please link the top gasket as well the O rings that I need.. I have a loader on mine so I need the remote hydraulic cover gasket and O rings also. I looked on the net but can not find the right parts or a kit for sale Thank you
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic 2 жыл бұрын
I believe this is the kit you need. I have not worked on a dexta so I'm just going by what the listed models are. As for the remote takeoff, the kit should have the o-rings in it but not sure about a gasket. www.yesterdaystractors.com/LCRK5564_Hydraulic-Lift-Cover-Repair-Kit_14808.htm?gclid=CjwKCAjw14uVBhBEEiwAaufYx8brIdMRm3zVxqBwu47BX5tfWoZ2TJFWIi3B4kI7vOyWBDWi19nuZhoCEjoQAvD_BwE

Could you use a piece of 3/8 - 24 all - thread say, 1 1/2 foot long, and rig a slide hammer to pull that valve out rather than bolt, sockets and washers or would the impact damage the valve?
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic 2 ай бұрын
I suppose you can. The socket and bolt puts a slow even pull on it so you can feel that the valve isn't moving.

@@chickenhousemechanic I have a 1964 ford 4000 and I have no draft control at all and position control needs constant adjustment at the quadrant to maintain height, I' have been watching your videos and I'm thinking about trying to fix it....btw, are you an instructor?...your videos are very well made...Thanks

@jaycounts4717 sounds like your cam pin is worn out. I'm not an instructor, professional tractor mechanic, or videographer. I am an ASE master and Honda master technician though. I just know finding videos explaining stuff is hard to come by, so I try my best to show and explain as much as I can without being boring. Thanks for the comment. I hope the video helps you get yours fixed.

@@chickenhousemechanic Thanks for the reply, I have another quick question, why would the tractor pull/engage very slightly (not enough to roll the tractor) when the clutch is released in neutral?
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic 2 ай бұрын
@jaycounts4717 tranmission is probably too tight causing the output shaft to spin some. My 861 is that way and I haven't fixed it yet.
