Here's delightful player from the RCA people introduced in 1955. The 45-EY-2 & 45-EY-3 were the bread & butter players for the first four years at RCA. In 1955 RCA decided to revamp their line-up & introduced new plastic players in various classy colors. Not wanting to lose their classic bread & butter 45-EY-2 sales, they updated the player to the #6-EY-1 which was basically the 45-EY-2 w/new colors (was told by my wife the color(s) are "taupe" - not gray!). The newly introduced brightly colored players turned out to be the new winners with teenagers & women. As a result, sales of the #6-EY-1 were dismal. These are NOT rare but are more difficult to find because FAR fewer were made than the 45-EY-2. This player is in outstanding original condition. It's been 100% restored w/rebuilt amp, new rubber motor mounts, changer mounts, idler, rerubbered cycle cam, Sonotone #52T ceramic stereo cartridge bridged for mono, CLA'd. I hope you've enjoyed another great piece of 50's history. Continue to check in as more will be coming!

YUP!!!, I have the 45EY2 player(1950) that I had to do a total restoration( both changer/amp), it looks and plays like it was just taken out of the box(I bought it for the reason that the case was in mint shape) it came with all the original tubes in it, that tested good!!! the unit that I have must have been a" low hours " record player that set un- used for 65 years

Actually the RCA 'nipper' emblem on the tone arm was probably there to add weight to the tone arm. The earlier one's without the emblem, was a bit too light and RCA suggested in some cases, to add a coin or two on the front of the tone arm.

Another great player / video. Thanks. That music and that sort of player pretty much perfectly capture the "45 experience" of selecting and playing your current song favorites in that era.

Great video! The refurbishment of your 6-EY-1 is outstanding! Enjoyed very much your choice of records to demonstrate as well. I have a 6-EY-2 in this color that I've been trying to refurbish. I'm having some problems with the sound during playback however. I have installed a Willie Bosco cartridge (twice) and continue to get a wavering sound during play. I've re-capped the chassis and also replaced the resistors. Still a work in progress. My first attempt at refurbishing one of these record players. Thanks for the excellent video! ~Dennis

Beauty! Interesting to note the 45-EY-2 was the biggest selling 45 record player of all time, and it's still my sentimental favorite.

Awesome! I had a 7EY-2HH in the eariy '60s--wish I still had it, although the diodes were causing a horrible 60 hz hum....

Glad you enjoyed the video! These are great little players that are easy to work on, sound good & look dynamite! I like the look of this over the 45-EY-2 though they're virtually the same player. Good luck with your restoration.

Extremely well done! I put on my sun glasses to view it as it shines so brightly. ☺ What a sweet sounding unit, sir! You, Chris Cuff, Robert Caston, Shawn Dickson, and "used to" Willie Bosco are all primo RCA experts! I don't think Willie still restores but does sell his low riders and O rings and creates those J-2 cookie "jars." They are great for holding granola bars, too! I agree with FORTYFIVEPLAYER~~~these models are my sentimental favorite!

@musicalcliff I must have had a senior moment! I meant to say "The Bop Chords" describing that record. I most certainly know it's NOT the Chordettes!!

Beautiful Glen... Say, Just FYI, that 45 by The "Bop Chords" (not the Chordettes) is quite collectable in itself! It came out in 1956 originally on a black label, then reissued on a bright orange, and finally in the 60's on a glossy red label. The copy on orange is valued at over $100 in near mint condition... which your copy seems to be in! Nice record!!!

I do rebuild these players as time permits. I would highly suggest Chris Cuff here on YT to do your restoration as I have little time to do even my own restorations! He's reasonable & a first class technician. Send him an e-mail through the YT messaging system. He should have you up & going for the Christmas season!

Do you rebuild these? I have the ey-2 I put new tubes in it and nothing happens. It was my father-in-laws family player when he was younger. I would love to get it running I am a huge lp fan and want to start with 45s. I would like to set this up next to my chair and play 45s while reading. Yours is absolutely beautiful.

Whoa! Can't Stay Mad at You....thanks for playing that. Probably haven't heard that since it was on the hit-parade. And am I making a wild guess when I say it sound's like a Goffin/King composition?

1955 RCA Model #6-EY-1 45 RPM Record Player - RCA #45-EY-2 Clone (Sorta!) I would like to purchase one from you......like the one you have featured. As an artist I can appreciate your workmanship. I have a large 45 collection of my earlier years growing up in the 50*s and 60*s. I would pay ANY PRICE for one bought directly from you. I have checked EBAY and worry about the quality and SHIPPING DAMAGE that may occur. I would pay extra for overnight white glove shipping service if available. Thanks! 2/13/18

well i thought i have seen everyone ofyour sites i really like reading them.. i have been reading them for awhile now...if i understand you correctly bridged for mono does it still have a stereo needle....but i didnt know you could play i dont even know how to finish the question sorry...
@seeburgsrock
@seeburgsrock 9 жыл бұрын
johnm893 It IS a stereo cartridge with stereo stylus but the left & right channels are bridged together for mono sound. It does NOT playback in stereo after bridging the 2 channels together but DOES make listening to modern records possible without ruining the grooves in the record.

@musicalcliff Thanx for that info Cliff - I never would have guessed it to be so expensive or valuable! As you know, I listen to my records & don't really collect for their value but it's certainly a nice surprise! I bought a BUNCH of good players this week & this record came with it (really almost stole them!). Among them was a VPI record cleaner. Have you used one or know how to use one? E-mail me when you get a chance.Thanx!!

This was NOT designed to plug into an external amplifier as it has its own amplifier built into the player! It would require a modification probably beyond your current skills.

I'm not very technically savvy, so please excuse the dumb question...but...I notice when the arm drops down on the record, well, it just seems to me that it lands hard. It's not a delicate drop at all. Are diamond needles and vinyl record grooves really meant to join that way, with a hard thud? Thanks for indulging me and I enjoyed the presentation very much.
@gregoryclemen1870

he also has the tone arm set to high( adjustable), I really do not like that, he has this unit set up to play 15 records at one shot. when you play that many records, the tone arm weight will vary, even with the pre-load spring located in the back of the tone arm, not to mention the stylus angle change as each record is played.
