Actually 1955 is merely my best guess based on information I can find on Ted Munk's typewriter database -- this could also be a 1954 machine. The 4AR series is a bit of an oddity -- often with the Tabulator name on the panel behind the platen, sometimes with no model name at all, and most rarely with the Sterling name as in this case. A great little typer, perhaps manufactured because Smith-Corona had parts and manufacturing capacity left over from the series it produced in the 1940s.
