Very hard to find, from Texas/New Mexico/Arizona,
1955 Studebaker President Speedster, is all original except for older re upholstery and head liner.
can,t believe I am buying this car from my new friends, who are Studebaker Drivers Club members, Erwin really knows his stuff.
I am feeling so lucky!
Now I must get busy with a couple other projects so I can make some room in my shop to start babying the Speedster. Planning to start conservation and restoration May 2019
Thank you Ervin and Robyn Souder for allowing me to buy your beautiful car.
I am privileged to be the next caretaker and grateful for the trust the owners are giving to me.
Look for both of these cars at Peachland world of wheels 2019.
Fingers crossed....always....keep a good thought.

I had a boss when stationed in San Antonio back in 1963 who owned a Golden Hawk. He was a Major on his last assignment before retirement. His wife was a teacher in El Paso. On Fridays after work, he would get in his Hawk and drive to El Paso to be with his wife, returning on Sunday - almost every single week. It’s over a 550 mile trip - at the time the route was on a 3-lane highway. Texas did not have a speed limit then and he told me it took him a little over 5 hours to reach his destination. There were few stops on that highway stretch back then. In those days, only a Golden Hawk could sustain a constant high speed such as that.

My first car while in high school was a '53 Commander Coupe, the precursor to this '55 Speedster. The Speedster was the precursor to the Hawk line! My first new car was a '63 Gran Turismo Hawk with an Avanti engine option. It was capable of sustained 100 MPH cruising. I called 80 MPH its "Snooze Cruise". I owned it for 30 years, put 240,000 miles on it. Best car I ever owned. One of my major regrets is ever selling it in '93.

My parents had a Studebaker just like that when I was a young child. They traded it because my mother didn't like driving a stick shift. Got a Ford and later a Chevy. But they often commented they wished they never traded the Studebaker.

The Chevy motor ruins it... an engine so ugly they had to cover it up with plastic covers so it wouldn't hurt peoples' eyes...

Thanks so much for posting this! When I was in college in the '80s my father bought a 1955 Studebaker President 2-door hardtop in black and silver that was gorgeous! It was very similar to the Speedster but it had a little less chrome and the standard dashboard. Dad even let me take it over the mountains to college for a few weeks where it really stood out in our small college town. When I heard the door close in the video it suddenly evoked so many memories of that cool old car. Thanks again!

I was two when my dad bought a new 55, V-8, three on the tree with OD, right off the show room floor, then he took it right to the drag strip, somewhere in the Baltimore area, drag raced it for a while, moved back to Mass, drove it for about ten years, accumulated about 3 hundred thousand on it and decided time for a trade in. He always thought of cars back then as just transportation, but I know he missed that one when it went gone.

Getting ready to restore mine that I have owned since I was 18. Has been in my friends garage for the last 40 years, prior to that, I had stored it. Originally a salmon pink/grey color scheme, but had been repainted to black/white. Have added gobs of NOS trim/engine parts throughout the years. Car is completely straight, and no rust, (it's in CA), with a little bondo on the trunk lid, but I have a perfect trunk lid off a 55 President. Can't wait to get it on the road.

My task is to finish the restoration on a 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk. The P.O. passed after it was started. A very unique car in Azure Blue Metallic with White fins, stick shift overdrive. Fortunately no rust.

Dad loved Studebakers. We had four during my teenage years. I learned to drive on a 53 Commander V8 stick shift. Never forgot that car. He even let me cool it up. 3" lowering blocks, spun aluminum Bonneville moon hubcaps, glasspac duel exhaust, 3 on the floor and of course the Black DiceI in the windshield.I only had my learners permit at the time, but boy that car was fun. I still have those Dice...wish I had that car to put them in. The last Stude I remember was a 56 Golden Hawk with the Packard V/8 that he bought for 'Mom'. My brother and I new better though, the grin on his face when he brought it home gave him away. Aluminum engine turned dash with Stewart Warner gauges, Golden & Cream two-tone paint, it was one cool ride.... Just time for me to be the head of the "crew." Me with my 200ft one wheel burnouts. I still consider to be it the first muscle car, that ride was a HOOT.

That car is smoking a bit from the left exhaust, might want to check compression
@4284gordon
@4284gordon Жыл бұрын
That is because these old cars use exhaust crossover under the carb to heat up the intake manifold and carb when running cold start. A coiled bi metal spring closes a flapper gate on the right exhaust bank directing hot exhaust thru a passage in the intake manifold under the carb. As the car heats up the bi metal spring uncoils and it opens the gate allowing exhaust out both tailpipes and the carb cools down. The white smoke was mostly water condensation. I did rebuild the engine a year later. It was worn out at 128,000 miles. No broken rings..
