Beautiful restoration! Chris Craft was the gold standard in the 1950's-60's. Grampa bought a 1955 42 foot Chris Craft in 1959, So, Calif, and we grew up on it, lots of great memories from these classic boats! In high-school I lived aboard Sea Cloud in the summer as grampas personal "bilge rat" and had the best time of my life. My jobs included getting bumpers up & down, fill water tanks, put window canvass up and down, hose the boat and canvas down after each outting, endlessly polishing chrome, put the flag up and down, and the annual varnishing! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous old "woodie", and thank you grampa for that opportunity to a world we would have never known.

Thanks for sharing- A beautiful piece of history- I had a 1965 38’ SeaSkiff Corinthian (with fly bridge) for 11 years- It was my 3rd wooden boat as I had previously owned a 28’ Owens and a 34’ wheeler (I loved wooden boats)- The Chris Craft was very special to me and we covered some miles out of the Boston Harbor-Marc

Beautiful Chris Craft, I grew up on one of these. Ours was 1957 and Dad ordered it with helm station on port side, so the cabin was different as well. Twin Chevy's , what great memories. Thanks for sharing!

Ours had 430 Lincoln engines and Velvet Drive transmissions. A mountain of low end torque and wide open, 4400 rpms all day long. They had Carter AFB carbs and NEVER failed to start and idle hot, cold or in between. I'm not so sure things weren't more satisfying and I'm almost positive we were materially better off!

Many of beers on a boat exactly like that me and my buddy picked one up when we were kids back in the early 80s we had to do quite a bit of work to it. Only got one motor running but that was good enough cuz all we did was cruise around the bay and drink beer Good Times.

@gordonanderson3111 Жыл бұрын
This is much like the 1957 38 foot Constellation I grew up on, and had to varnish endlessly. Our layout was totally different, with the wheel on the left an door to cabin on the far right. Also the galley was in front - all different, yet I sure do like this one. One could, and I Did, waterski behind it, a few times. What a sound those old straight 6 truck engines had, if we could keep them running! The boat 'Timarlin III' is said to have been taken to LA, may have been the one seen in a TV commercial, and had a unique 4 Air Standard horns on one manifold set up on the hard top, if anyone has seen her?

What is she, 32'? And what's her power? Twin Lincoln's or Caddy's? Did you urethane the teak decks or Tung oil them? I have a curious worm in me on a classic like she is. She has graceful lines of a '50's boat. I know you gotta have the blob of a RADAR sticking up to spoil things some-she's still yar. I wonder how stable a sea-boat she is-she could surprise you.

May I ask, what is the decks sealed with please?, I have a teak deck and was looking to seal them rathar than replace it. Lovely boat btw, lot of love and care put into her,
@Walkercolt13 жыл бұрын
Philip, to "seal" oil based urethane is hard to beat, for "authentic" and re-do every couple of years, Tung oil and lots of it and rub until your arm is as big as your leg! Courtesy my friend that works at Southern Hills Country Club (the PGA Championship is there this year I think) and Larry refinishes the teak benches with Tung oil on a rotating basis each Winter. Being from Okra-Homer, I don't know how urethane holds-up to sun and salt water. It handles rain and weather OK for four or five years IF you put on many coats and prep well.
@praisebewibble Жыл бұрын
Apparently they were not sealed at all as it makes the deck slippery when wet. I have the same problem. An old teak deck that leaks in places. Sometimes they are covered which is a shame but nessesary evil, so to speak.
