The GM overdrive i had in my truck had a shaft that pushed the low/reverse slider into neutral when put in overdrive . Also when putting overrunning clutch together it was necessary to use a rubber band to hold the rollers in position .

Do a video on how to drive it

That's in the planning stage! Need to dust off the GoPro to get some "On the Road Operation" Thanks for watching!

Great video! I have the same transmission in my 1955 Ford Club Sedan and really like its operation and gearing on the road. I run a 3.79 in the rear end.

Thanks for watching! Got the wood dowel idea from watching your video before I even started tearing into it the first time. @@HotRodReverend

Great. Thanks Jimmy, I have a sneaky suspicion it’s going to shift a lot better than when I drove it. Your dad would be real proud, not just for your skills as a mechanic but for making the video also.

@@robertsprafke9376 The transmission is working great! The shifter works much better now that it has been refurbished! The truck is running good but I ain't driven it to much yet. Just haven't had to much time to play with it. Didn't get much in videos of the install process but video should be coming soon. I'll be heading towards AR late Sept early Oct. Love to see you at Sam's place!

Great video, excellent camera work and all is very well lit. I do have an issue with my 1948 Lincoln with the BW Overdrive. After removing my solenoid for rebuilding, I had the need to drive the car with a blockout plate installed in place of the solenoid. Now I can't get my new solenoid to engage. Could I have damaged something by driving the car with the solenoid out?
@40gritgarage673 ай бұрын
I'd say NO. The bar that the solenoid attaches to is probably all the way into the overdrive parts. You may have to make a tool that looks like the ball shaped end of the solenoid to pull the bar out so you can connect the solenoid to it. Or energize the solenoid before you place the end into the hole to connect with the bar inside the trans. I've never done either of the two processes because I have always installed the bar in the most outward position! Good luck!

I saw you remove and reinstall the side cover with sift levers, didnt you replace the seals on the shift levers? I was hoping to see how you removed them from the cover. Mine seem seized in.

Did not replace seals. But to get the shafts out, you must remove the pin holding the shafts. The pins are like the one for the overdrive cable lever. Use a propane torch to heat things up before you start pounding. They only come out one way as they are tapered. They should pop out rather easy. Don't use no 3 lbs sledge on it! Once you removed the pins, place the side cover in a bag before you remove the two shafts from the cover. There are balls and a spring that POP OUT! I've never done this, but that's what I have read!
