Nice man I have the R10E-1A WG.DIV . I’m going to changing it to a 12v relay Governor and solenoid.

I have one of these OD transmissions in the same truck only with a 360 v8. It’s wet on the back like yours looks. Do you know if there’s a parts diagram that shows what seal goes in it. I drive the truck last night and it was dripping oil when I returned. It almost smells like automatic transmission fluid. Any help finding a parts list and diagram would be appreciated. Thank you

Hey man great video,just curious if the know anything about swapping the bell housing and input shaft over to the older T85,I have a 64 F100 that has a transmission in the bed that I believe to be the original transmission from the Y block and believe its a T85 from doing some research,haven't looked to see if its tagged as a T85 yet but I believe it is... Planning on putting a 302 in the truck if plans dont change and would like to use the original trans and driveshaft if possible but I cant find anything online about swaping anything to figure anything out,if you have any information it would be much appreciated tahnks.

Nice video explaining the function of the BW overdrive. Hunting for one to put in my 1960 Ford Galaxie to get ride of the Cruise-O-Matic. Always like my cars to have 3 pedals. Thanks.

So say u have a toggle switch in the solenoid do u turn it on with the od cable pulled out or pushed in

Hi , I have a 1970 E200 with a stock 302 and C4 trans . I want overdrive ! Sounds like this unit would fit it ! Im not clear on what you said about its use and how you have to specifically treat the gas pedal to activate it . Is there some Ford in the 80s that will work in this application ? Otherwise this T-85 seems hard to work with . Thoughts ? Thx

From what I understand the T85N/R11 overdrive unit was discontinued in 1972 from the Ford line up.

I have two of these trans I have one just like this truck T85N with the 3:1 stump puller first gear. I also have a 1964 galaxie 500 390 with a t85 Borg Warner 3 on the column. I wish I had this video when we rebuilt mine in the galaxie lol. The galaxie has a long tail shaft with the same R11 overdrive internals. It was very interesting for someone that’s never rebuilt a transmission but it was done! I would suggest looking up Randy rundles book on the R11 overdrive totally worth the money. Really really cool transmission and so glad to see a video on this. One thing I know a lot of people ask about is the solenoid and I took the suggestion of using a light when using a toggle switch as if you back out in reverse the clutch sprang basket will blow all the bearings out and lock it up nice. Thanks for this video.

How does on check the oil, change the oil, and last what kind of oil is recommended for the overdrive unit. Thanks.

Daniel Mendoza D.P.M. There is a full plug on the side of the transmission and overdrive unit. And a drain plug on the bottom of each. Recommended oil is SAE 90 mineral gear oil. The same oil is recommended for the transmission too.

Thanks for the video - I just bought a ‘70 F100 302 with the 3-speed OD. Right now the overdrive isn’t working but all the components are there. I haven’t tried to diagnose it yet. On a side note, do you know if the T85N has a synchro first gear? When I try to downshift to first it grinds. Guy I bought it from said he didn’t think 1st was supposed to be synchronized. Not sure I buy that for a 1970 but I could be wrong...

From what I can gather 1st gear is not synchronized. When the system is working properly, under the 28-30mph mark, the system is supposed to free wheel (no engine braking) which can allow you to downshift into 1st. It's been awhile since I've read the book on it. In my other videos where in beginning my troubleshooting on my transmission I reccomend a small yet complicated book that explains how, why, and what the transmission does and how to troubleshoot it.

Look for OLD Motors Auto repair manuals ! I have a 1949 edition that has wiring schematics and exploded parts layout for overdrives .

David Morton that I don’t know. As the overdrive was typically behind the T85. I would be a pretty neat combo with T18- and R11 if possible.
