I always thought those '56 Fords were better looking cars than the '57 Fords. Really miss those good commercials we used to watch instead of the stuff we see on TV today, too.

I think only Chrysler really knew how to make a car work with fins. The '57 Fords were goofy and the Chevies were frumpy.

I agree and I've owned several of both those cars over the years. The '57s were fine up until you look at those goofy headlights. I pulled my "frog eye" rings off and put on some plain chrome ones (off a '53 Chevy) and it totally changed the looks for the better. I miss my '56 the most though but it was a classier "Fairlane Victoria" (not a Crown). I liked the Crown because of it's rarity, but it was still a "sedan" (post car) in my book. A true hardtop has NO posts between the windows. ;-)

I agree. The '55 & '56 Fords were so classy. Just the right level of flash and pizzazz everywhere to give them flair while still being demure and not over-stated in the slightest. A silky smooth blending of the best. The 1957's front end was so awful it looked like it was just thrown on as an afterthought at the very last minute before production. I always thought they could have done so much better - because they certainly did before.

Unfortunately Down Under, the only Ford model available was the sedan. I haven't heard of any Aussie hardtops from the 1956-59 run. In the USA, the '57 was a completely new design, but in Australia they kept the '56 design until 1960, when the introduced the U.S. 1959 model which ran until 1962. Interesting how Ford mixed and matched models around the globe.

The US 59 models were released in Australia in August 1959, just when the US 60 models were being introduced. Ford Australia also had its own version of the Wagon in 56/57/58/59 with a completely different tailgate and altered rear treatment. A small amount of Victorias were in fact sold in Australia and these were unofficial. Sold at select dealers they were on a special order basis but less than one pee cent of 1955-59 Fords were available in this Imported two door format

@Leo Notariarinni Thank you Leo for sharing your aussie Ford expertise. In particular of the local Wagon. In the very early 1970s the eccentric dad of a schoolmate often showed up in a 2-door Ranch Wagon, which btw was I guess a sort of russet colour, that distinctive factory colour like an orangey brown? Stock standard, quite plain looking with minimal chrome, that unusual 2-door body, a V8 manual. This was in Warrandyte in outer Melbourne circa 1971. Apparently he had owned it for years, his name was Mr Brown. In my lifetime of ‘car spotting’ I have never seen another like it - not even in photos or online. Cheers mate, thanks again.

The Y block Ford engine has given me many miles of enjoyment, low down tractability, good fuel economy yet can get going when needed..

If Leave It To Beaver debuted in early 1957 instead of late 1957, Ward Cleaver (Beaver's and Wally's father) would have driven a 1956 Ford Customline V-8, 2 door Victoria hardtop. However Ward did Drive a 1957 Ford Customline 4 door sedan. Besides a 1957 Ford, Ward did Drive a 1958 Ford Customline 4 door sedan, 1959 Plymouth Fury 4 door hardtop, 1960 Plymouth Fury 4 door hardtop, 1961 Plymouth Fury 4 door hardtop, and finally a 1962 Dodge Polara 4 door hardtop.

When you could fill up a 25 gallon tank for a couple of bucks! 200 miles to visit grandma and grandpa? Sure why not? And miles of new Interstate Highways built courtesy of the new Eisenhower administration. Yeah, the mid to late 50s, the Golden Age of the American Automobile. I was born In '56. 65 years ago. Some of those gorgeous rolling works of art were still around as I was growing up in the 60s.

I always liked the body style of this model. Kind of a six passenger T-Bird.

Apparently 1956 was the first year for the Customline Victoria. Notice the dog dish hubcaps, the Fairlane would probably have full wheel covers. Chevy had a Two-Ten hardtop that was introduced in mid-1955, this is Ford's answer to that model.

Ah, the good ole daze when service stations were located in a sound stage and the polite and fresh scrubbed service station actors wore natty uniforms. You can trust your car to the man who wears the star................😎

Yes you are spot on, first & last, 56 also Fords first four door hardtop, town Victoria,. down here in Australia 55-57 Chevy is far more popular than the same era of Ford. to me this is strange but each to his own. 59 Fords where low priced works of four wheeled art, I would be interested in knowing your favourite cars..

Nah, they had driven 200 miles and this was a stop at the sound stage. Kinda like going through a black hole, one minute you are on the open road and next you're inside a film studio with some union scale actors. All thanks to Ford's "Space-O-Matic" time warp feature. Ask the US Air Force, they know all about IT. 🙂
