I love Nellie Lutcher. My dad used to talk about her a lot.

SAW Her live @ Vine St Bar & Grill on 8th of july,1986. Got a photo to prove it, she s looking directly @ my lense, shot from close range side of the grand piano ... & of the Lady, the Legend, the Truth (= a Lana Turner bio) ...Wish I could also have seen Hazel Brooks ! Came from far away, northern Europe. 1st time in Hollyweird. Maybe next life ...,"Heaven knows, Mr Allison .."

4:46 - How's that for a 'lapel' lavalier microphone. Almost like a Bell telephone operator's harness!

Dave often invited jazz musicans to perform on "TODAY" during the '50s- this is from a Friday telecast, probably during the 8-9am(et) hour. At the time, the series originated from RCA's "Exhibition Hall", where people could see the show from the big "picture windows", hold up signs, and wave to their heart's content....

Is it Charles Burrell on bass? Jay

Nope, didn't do anything 'fancy' to clean up this kinescope... Just used my 16-year skills as an Avid Symphony video editor and did simple color correction on a shitty-looking kinnie. Glad you liked it the outcome!

This kinescope looks very well made and very well cleaned up and stabilized to look close to the original live telecast, I'd almost think this footage was recorded to 2" quad videotape!!! :D Question, was this footage ran through a specialized motion estimation process like Kevin Segura's "LiveFeed" which compares 2 frames and guesses the frame between to up the picture rate from 24 pictures/sec kinescope standard to 60 pictures/sec NTSC standard for original fluid video motion?

Amazing quality -- both video and audio -- considering the age and that it's a kinescope. Interesting microphones, too, on both Nellie and Dave. (Garroway was known as a jazz fan, so this is wonderful to see... Anyone know who the bassist and drummer were?
