1956 Pontiac Star Chief - FOR SALE at Ellingson Motorcars in Rogers, MN

This 1956 Pontiac Star Chief Catalina Coupe Custom is a beautifully preserved, stock example of Pontiac's top-of-the-line 2 door hardtop model. When Pontiac introduced its 1956 models to the public on October 21, 1955, two model lines were offered, the entry-level Chieftain and the more luxurious Star Chief which rode on a slightly longer, 124" wheelbase. Perhaps the most notable difference for the '56 Star Chiefs was the snazzier exterior trim including various Star Chief emblems, a trifecta of "Chief Stars" on the rear decklid, fluted panel bands on the rear quarter panels, and a band of chrome surrounding the side windows. The front bumpers in 1956 were also a bit glitzier than the previous year with a new all chrome design with integrated round parking lights and "bomb-type" bumper guards. Moreover, 1956 was a banner year for the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors with the addition of famed automotive executive Buckie Knudsen taking the reigns at the GM marque in the middle of the summer and with Pontiac producing its six millionth automobile a month later. Powering this Star Chief is a 316.6 "Strato-Streak" V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor that pushed out 227 horsepower when new. Its mated to a Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission. Exhaust exits this Pontiac's V8 engine via a dual exhaust setup. Bringing this '56 Pontiac to a stop is made much easier with the addition of power brakes, especially with all that horsepower under the hood. This Star Chief rides on a set of whitewall radial tires paired with a set of full wheelcovers that give this Star Chief Catalina a great look and even better ride. The exterior on this Pontiac Star Chief is finished in a two-tone paint scheme consisting of Sun Beige over Sandalwood Tan, just how it came from the Kansas City factory back in 1956. The interior on this 1956 Star Chief is gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in Beige vinyl with rust colored patterned cloth inserts that have a nice stock look. The dash, door panels, and steering wheel all appear to be in their stock configuration and have a charming original appearance. The dash is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, battery gauge, water temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge, along with a push-button AM radio, lighted glovebox, and clock. Something to note was that 1956 the last year for Pontiac having those chrome stripes running across the bonnet. It had been a long lived Pontiac tradition.

We had a 1956 Pontiac 2 door Catalina hard top. Looked like this, but red&white. Same motor. First car I learned to drive at 12 years old. No power steering so it was a wrestling event to park. It had the Indian head hood piece that had an orane plastic headpiece with a light in it. Lit up when lights were on.n😊

My mom had a car similar to that my dad bought it in the 60s for a second car if I was able to have enough money to afford something like that now I would definitely have to put a retro stereo in it and seat belts for everyone where is the car show people liked it or not because you can't drive the damn thing legally without three belts that's just the law and if I owned it I would want to be able to drive it around and enjoy it I had plenty of muscle cars from the sixties but I bought them second-hand in 1969 and 70 and 72 + 3 and that kind of stuff 67 GTO convertible just a mention one came from the factory with electric antenna air conditioning big block 400 a friend of mine that I bought it from had already put Mickey Thompson tires all the way around white raised letter tires it had the Hurst 4-speed shifter 650 dual line Holley carburetor 456 gear in the rear end head us Cragar mags only paid 800 bucks and the car looks better than anything I own now I've had a lot of that kind of stuff back in the day there was no seat belt law anyway you're nobody really goes a crap anymore I'm just waiting to die that's all started out for and I'm going to end up poor
