been a vw fan for longer than i can remember, this ones a beaut! any idea how he cools it? v8 based bugs i'm familiar with invariably have a radiator up front usually in conjunction with louvers. as usual great job my friend!

Quick history of VW maybe you aren't aware of. Hitler told Porsche to build a mass produced car that the "common man" could afford. Porsche declined. Hitler told Porsche you will never build a car again unless you do so as we control the German steel industry and rubber industry, and all imported materials. Porsche grudgingly agreed to this demand and made a car for the common folks. The "Folks Car." Translated to English.... Volkswagen.

well... actually Mr. Ferdinand Porsche always wanted to build a Folks car... and had a lot of problems with his former employees like NSU and Mercedes, years before Hitler came up... THEN Hitler asked the industry to offer a Folks car... Opel tried... NSU tried... BMW tried... Hitler asked for a car to carry 4 Persons, to run 100km/h, to consume max 7l/100km and to be produced for less than 1000 RM (Reichsmark...the currency they used in Germany these days)... Well... Ferdinand (Ferry) Porsche was the only guy, who had the construction plans for a car like this ready... he talked with Hitler... never denied Hitler´s ideas and made 3 beetles (handmade even the engines) in his garage/carport... all the other companies asked for 1300RM and up and said: Hitler... what you´re asking for is not possible... afterwards there was another 30 pieces produced... they tested them the hard way... (last but not least ´cause industry didn´t like to seem ridiculuos)... they squeezed them 30 pieces all day long on dust tracks in 1st speed and didn´t manage to kill them bugs... this is how beetle was born... so greenskeeper... if there´s anything else youl´d like to learn about VW... just ask me...

Props to the engineer/fabricator/metal worker. I disagree to simply calling it a "Beetle" though. The shell and some of the frame and floorpan may be VW but the engine is not VW obviously. The problem lies in the engine because it isn't VW and mainly because it isn't aircooled. All 1956 VW Beetle's were aircooled. This is water-cooled. I can't agree with it just because the engine is in the rear and the gas tank is up front either. That would mean putting the engine up front would make it a Buick. Meyers Manx didn't call his buggy a VW even though he used a VW frame and floorpan. He called it a Meyers Manx. There's too much of an 'apples to oranges comparison' here to call it anything other than a hybrid. Also, I'm quite positive there a few 'Buick' fans out there that would agree. By, the way, I'm not offended by the build. This isn't the first time an American engine has been put into a VW. I think simply calling it a VW is incorrect no matter how much it was talked about at the show. That being said, I have always enjoyed your videos Scottie. Keep up the good work.
