It's amazing to see how rural 1950's Scotland was. Farms, 1930's attire, boats carried over from the previous century, and more.

In 1961 people in this area would then finally receive ITV through their own franchise called Grampian Television which came on air September 30th 1961 from the Mounteagle transmitter. Colour television would finally arrive in this area in 1970 with BBC 2 first provided followed by BBC 1 and Grampian Television in October 1973.

a possibly apocryphal story suggests the Grampian station was to be called Scottish Highlands & Islands Television until someone looked at the initials.

@@RatPfink66 It was the only independent broadcaster that did not make drama. Quizzes and sheep. It was like local radio, pitched to stupid people. STV is the Daily Record, also for stupid people.

As someone who was born the year after this film, it’s frightening to think that all these people except maybe the young kids at the start are dead now.

Not that many people in Britain had televisions in 1957, it was in the mid 60s when they really became ubiquitous and affordable and the vast majority of people had a set.

There's a big difference between a TV set with 4 knobs sold in the 1950s and every device today which monetizes every possible interaction with it. Older people are more likely to see the graft.

The Wee Free [Free Church of Scotland] were not happy about this at all - it was the devils work ! Someone described the Wee Free to me as "You are born a sinner, will die a sinner, and there is nothing you can do about it when you are alive". Also made famous buy the Rev W.E.Free starring Rikku Fulton - comedy genius.
