Nice TV, hopefully you'll be able to resurrect it. I just finished a LCD TV repair for someone. Needed to replace the motherboard because the Tuner was intermitent on the old board, and guess what, you can't find anymore or anywhere a replacement tuner.... planed obsolescence people! Keep the vintage TV's alive because they stand for quality and care. Cheers :)

Very interesting, Admiral was made in Brazil too but it was not considered reliable TVs sets however the air condiotioners made here by Admiral were very good.

We had a 1958 Silvertone 19" B&W with a handle and dials mounted on the side. It also was an all metal case except for the back panel. It generated a lot of heat when operating for hours. So much so, it could add a few degrees to our small LR in the winter months. Like the one shown I do not recall whether it had a built in antenna or not. Certainly not a telescoping one which Sears put on later years models.

Years ago when I was repairing TV for a living I had an insurance adjuster tell me that the most likely part of the TV to cause a fire was the AC interlock on the back. I've seen some pretty badly melted and charred cords.

That 833 on the dual diode was probably the date code. 33rd week of 1958 maybe?

Only thing of mine that ever had asbestos in it was a very old radiant heater I used for defrosting stuff; it was used as the electrical insulation right behind the ceramic heating element bobbin which glowed red hot in use. I kept it in there, knowing that it probably wouldn't do anything as long as it wasn't opened again.

Those repair facilities that make them kind of remarks should go out of business. I ran an Atwater Kent radio for years with only changing one capacitor. The transformer needed replaced because the windings were bare. The radio still picked up stations from all over the USA. Sure beat the all American five radios.the paper capacitors had wax but nothing leaked out. At that time the radio was over 40 years old. 73

Shang, I've got a question fer U, OM. When I was a kid and re-capped my Hallicrafters SX-25 receiver, I replaced all the caps at once. One of the caps turned out to be defective or I made a wiring mistake, I can't remember. I then had one hell of a time getting it working again. So ever since then, I've always replaced the caps one at a time and re-checked the operation of the unit after each one. Your thoughts?
@shango0668 жыл бұрын
+William Crowell Exactly the way you should. I often compare them on the cap tester to verify still changing them one at a time but several between power ups.
@OlegKostoglatov8 жыл бұрын
+William Crowell I have made a habit of running all my new capacitors through the bridge before putting them in a radio or TV, I got burned on some NOS caps a few years ago so I just test them all out of habit so I don't have to do things twice. Sometimes you can replace caps one at a time and test the set after each, but in some cases it's just not feasible. Like in one radio I worked on most of the capacitors and resistors are installed on hand wired circuit boards under the chassis, so you have to disconnect each board before you pull them out and replace the components mounted to them. However I overhauled one board at a time, and before I did I made detailed diagrams of where every capacitor, resistor, and wire went so I would not loose track. It was a Roger model Ten-60 from 1935-36, think of an RCA model 140 or G.E K80 only with no diagrams of the boards, plus rubber covered wire, and you will get the picture.

Bob Andersen will like this video, he likes Admirals. No, it is not likely to burn your house down, anymore then an AA5 will, though the selenium rectifiers in the voltage doubler will make a good stink bomb should the filter caps short out.

@dcfuksurmom5 жыл бұрын
he is using a digital box, that is connected directly into the tv, if the tv was functioning correctly there would be no snow, as the signal from the converter box is connected directly.

although the correct term is ATSC tuner, as its just a box that works with ATSC channels, but has RF outputs
