There is a modern iteration of the J type van... fully electric. I've always liked these vans... not just iconic, but cheerful.

What was the gearbox like ? My uncle said the Commer van gear change, was like a spoon in a custard bowl.

They had loads of these around when I was a nipper, I was always fond of them. Vans and cars seemed to have distinctive character in those days. You could get them all in Dinky and Matchbox models too.

My first job was as a delivery driver for Budgens, using this make of van. Caught me out every time if i put my right arm out to signal, the door would slide shut. I dont remember the indicators working!

I remember picking one up from Orpington workshop in early 1967 and brought it back to Gravesend. I had only had my licence for a couple of weeks. The steering was diabolical. We nicknamed it Waltzing Matilda.

Had one of these as a school van in the late 60's with wooden seats down the side.

Oh Lordy. Dat am a beautiful van. So many of these charming vehicles must have been recycled, into Ford Transits and Volkswagen type twos, and the like. I am put in mind of the words of Joni Mitchel, who didn't wake up to their declining numbers until it was almost too late. Only when the last of them in North America had to be disguised as a Checker Taxi, was she moved to write: "Don't Z-types always seem to go before you realize they are not Taxis?"

I remember reading about the resurrection of Morris Commercial Van's a couple of years ago. These J type vans were being remade at a new factory in Worcester with the same shape but updated using carbon fibre and electric power with a 200mile range. Just goggle them, they have a website if you are interested in more details.

the new ones look great, unfortunately they have a 60 grand price tag, that cant compete with peugot e-vans at 40 grand they do look great though kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH2QdHmZiMicf7c&ab_channel=GuyMartinProper
@johnbrereton52293 жыл бұрын
@@kevinwillis6707 I expect it's high price is down to being such new technology, and the scale of production. However, over time both will change and they will hopefully be more affordable. Have you heard that Austin are also back ? But not with a van, an electric sports car, the Austin Arrow, made in Essex.

Earlier models had Morris side valve engine,3 speed box. Later models had ohv Austin engines and I think 4 speed box after BMC amalgamation.

Does anyone know why Sarah left ?
@guyemmott40093 жыл бұрын
I suspect a controversial question that the family and more importantly the Production company won't want to visit. Sarah has her own YT channel now and also appears on some others such as Cortina City recently.. I miss her on the TV series..

Ahh she was good Sarah, a natural'sexy and game for a laugh,not like the crap whats on TV now, here's just 1/ Claudia Winkleman absolutely abysmal a 60 going on 12 absolutely atrocious, then bloody Rylan, etc then all the usual shit Bradley Walsh and how they now get all the family on the payroll,

I had one but it wasn't going, it was a side valve engine and the phenolic timing cog stripped, took ages to find it.

Absolutely brilliant adorable TV program, everyone is a natural person, no stupid f*** like the bloody.Our Gormless bubbly 60 year old media type coming on 12__ planted in our dull boring TV nowadays, but I love seeing Sara she's real, she's a proper female who knows her job,,her place and working in a male environment, and also she's funny,she's game for a laugh,

Sarah left last year. The new series is dull as ditch water without her.
@terencebarrett28973 жыл бұрын
@@dawhandle I know and really whatever program she's been offered it will not work,this series only worked because of chemical balance a glimpse of everyone's life a personal character there,quirks differences, a one minute sequence of words,funny looks, goading and a mickey take, once you take them out and give longer sequence own show it doesn't work, she was only known for working in the office a backchat,mickey take and not taking life seriously, but offer of money maybe was to hard to turn down,
