Why is an ancient TV restoration channel the most wholesome comment section on KZbin? Nice videos by the way

Great video. My father was a TV repairman in the 60s and 70s. He has a business called Houston Tuner Service. I remember the smell of him soldering stuff. Great times when people fixed stuff.

Great video. I has seen these models but had no idea the screen was movable. Those vertical rolling glitches bought back my childhood.

Holy cow, the amount of effort and knowledge needed to do this kind of electronics restoration amazes me. The result is awesome though! That set looks amazing!

I'm so happy to have found your channel! This is fantastic to see these beautiful old TVs ! I grew up in the late 60s and early 70s, and I always dreamed of TVs like we have today, but I kind of miss the big console televisions. It was basically a piece of furniture as well. I can't wait to see more of your videos!!🙂👍👍

Jack, I've found that soft scrub, water and a nylon scrub brush work well to clean up those tandem cords. Also it's a lot easier to get those gold bands on by hooking both ends of the spring and then slipping the band on, rather than fumbling with the spring with needlenose pliers.

That looks like the original CRT with the low-voltage filament, and in near-new condition, which is rare! I've heard the tube sockets in these sets are pretty flimsy. It was smart to replace them. One doesn't find bad *brand new* electrolytic capacitors very often, only seemingly when you least expect it!

You did a good job. I think Vert. linearity needed a little more attention, though.

New follower who’s been enjoying your content. Are you in washing state? I live in Renton wa and actually have a couple very old and unique TVs I’ve gotten free from garage sales. If you’re local I would love to see them on your channel. Let me know if you are in my area, I heard u say that new crazy German tv was retrofitted in Tacoma, so figured maybe that’s where u got it and are from.

Hey, i have a philco model 38-8 radio that is in ok condition. I was wondering what capacitors i need for it because they are 90 years old. What type of caps and electrolitics do i need do I need to replace the strip thing and mire questions i have. If you read this I can maybe get your contact and i can send some pictures so you can tell me what to do, I am varry new to radio repair. I hope i can fix it so i can get a head start in how it works. Thank you

Hey buddy, you can send me a message on Facebook at Saunders Co. I would recommend getting replacement capacitors from Antique Electronic Supply since their website is easy to navigate. Mouser is also great but their site is a bit confusing. Others recommend Digikey although I’ve never purchased from there. We can talk about it in more detail on FB if you’d like.

So update, I replaced the power cord and it turns on I haven't tuned the thing because the condition of the speaker is questionable.. I have tried to look up a schematic on my radio model but i can't find anything on the same model. Ill be sure to message you soon Thanks.

The original tuner is not repairable?
@televisionforever3 ай бұрын
I was on a bit of a deadline getting this television back, but also, the tuner is a highly sensitive piece of a equipment that I don't have enough knowledge on yet to tinker with. Everything in there is very precise and tuned exactly. Any accidental mess-up with coils, resistors, or variable capacitors can really mess up any signal coming into it. I'm sure whatever problem was in there, is an easy fix, but I wanted to give this customer a known good tuner, and worry about the problem tuner later in a future project. I'm trying to clean up and downsize my workspace at the moment.

Wow, I never would have expected a bad UCC cap either. Usually they're top shelf.
