@@ObservantMantis Wasn't aware that you were an editor, and this was an academic writing course. I was actually sympathizing, not awaiting multiple mansplainers, demanding "proper" comments from the likes of me. If more men would regard humans in terms of their personalities, and not gender or ethnicities, this world would be so much better for it. Today.
@ObservantMantis
@ObservantMantis 2 жыл бұрын
@@leybenson Hello there, if genitals matter so much to you I am biologically female. How about instead of trying to paint yourself as some psuedo feminist- how about you stop using WHOLE MOVEMENTS FIGHTING FOR EQUALITY as an excuse for your comment. If you are a sociology major or social psych major you would understand how dangerous generalizing certain behaviors to certain sexes. I am not sure what you do for a living but I believe from your attitude and blatant sexism that you are NOT either. If you are i am scared for out future. Its not MEN regarding people in terms of gender and ethnicity- it is the entirety of SOCIETY. Both women AND men FAIL to see people for their personality as a SOCIETY we place people in in-groups and our-groups. As a SOCIETY we protect our in-groups and despise the out groups. This is a HUMANITY issue not a MENS issue. There ARE issues that are MEN'S issues such as SEXUAL ASSAULT and PHYSICAL ABUSE but in the case of racism it is NOT men alone. We will NEVER view people for simply their personality because SOCIETY holds value in stereotypes and hates what it doesn't understand. ON TOP of this, while RACE is a social consutrct- cultures do vary and with it there are debates SUCH AS religion, cultural norms, gender based roles in society, holidays, proper conduct, and different ways of weighing crimes. With these CULTURAL DIFFERENCES we WONT view others simply in terms of individual personality. We are a product of our CULTURES and our histories. Just as you and I are. So TLDR, you are sexist (naively or not idk and dc) and you are giving off "super model wants to save the world vibes" when the world is so much more complex. Also, I am not going to even try and understand the "wasn't aware you were an editor and this was an academic course". Im sorry was I supposed to just write insults instead of answering you like a human being? What on earth. I would assume an actual explanation would be better + more educational/informative than that.
@leybenson
@leybenson 2 жыл бұрын
@@ObservantMantis It took a lot of typing to try and persuade a middle aged woman that she is a FEMINIST, and probably not a PSYCH major. I understand that you are younger, and thus tend to react before thinking, but there is absolutely no need for you to continue. As I wrote earlier in this post- my reply was mine, and as such, it does not require correcting by anyone. Toxic masculinity is not reserved to men (as is apparent from your reply), so how about you reflect on yourself before you come to educate others. Best of luck!

I think one of the many reasons those young adults were so comfortable and the atmosphere was so friendly is because all of them are from everywhere of the world. Because of the diversity everyone from everywhere could bring something valuable and contribute to this wonderful discussion. I experienced that same kind of friendly atmosphere in my own school where everyone in my class where from different nationalities (Turkey, India, Austria, America, Korea, Philippines, Nigeria, Egypt...). It felt like a big family. It was wonderful.

The ability to think deeply and articulate so well ... Norway ...at the very end seemed to sum up what America was (at least was once for just white folks). She described it as a collective hopefulness to harness a particular ideology and turn it into reality. Special mention to Krishna (India) for such nuanced self wear reflections on the differences and potentials therein. Big thanks to Tetteh Kofi (Ghana) for his thoughtful articulations. There are other series of this programme where the Ghanian students are leagues ahead of everyone else in self awareness and articulation and one debate where a 16 year old Nigerian really trounced his fellow panel members with insightful facts and clear reasoning.

I agree they should be paid better and respected for their wisdom :) Some of the punishments sound harsh >< Also the girl from Iran is so pretty 💕 Bashir (I think) had such beautiful words and so did the boy who went after him. this is because, nowadays, teacher dont have the same privilege as before. Teacher are bound by strict rules and regulation, the same goes for students. As you know, the more civilization of a country, the more corruption came out and the more people being racist especially to foreigner. Do you think nowadays how many teacher have fun and passion to teaching the students? i think less than 10%.

Their ability to think so deeply and speak their thoughts so fluently feels almost foreign to how most people are these days. Also how personable and friendly all of them are is Honestly special. I truly feel like people are slowly growing away from certain parts of humanity and it’s sad to see

Well to be fair these were the high and royal of their school, they got chosen between their entire country’s population and are considered highly intelligent. There definitely were lots of dirty people just like today, but I must admit the morals of the past were a lot better than today’s. With each generation, we become worse

It's the fact that today there's a lot more exposure. You can upload anything to the internet and everyone can see it freely. In the 50's people couldn't share their views through a tweet, instead through a camera or broadcast that was (usually) rehearsed or more professional. More often than not, it's easy to see the worst of people rather than the best especially in today's environment.

As much as I'm enamored of these young people of their time with their brilliance, open mindedness(for some) and eloquence. Let us not blander on a hasty generalization, thinking that all students of their time are like them. They were not part of the average students, so we shouldn't compare them with today's students in general. As in the previous video, it was mentioned that they were selected and won at their respective countries(most likely debate or the like). Looking at the topics and, this is only me inferring, I think this program was done to promote the united nations. They needed it so that people would have a better understand and be more understanding with each other. And I believe that we sure need this type of program again and not just for teenagers or college students, but young adults as well. If anything, (no matter what the political intentions were), this video is teaching us that a world devoid of dialog and sharing of ideas cannot foster true peace. This shows that we can talk about our difference without being passive aggressive or simply not speak at all, in fear of hurting someone's feelings.

There is internet, KZbin, WhatsApp and all kinds of video communication tools available today. For anybody who wants to learn and communicate, so why do we need this kind of exchanges. Nothing has changed for other students in Africa and Asia, they are still articulate and know about the world and the Americans (all Americans black and white) and Europeans are still as ignorant, self centred and narcissistic as they were in the 1950's

A whole lot of hasty generalizations in the comment section... While I don't know the context, it's probably safe to assume these are the smartest and brightest kids from their respective countries, and perhaps from at least upper-middle class families? Hence this group of "kids" are *_not_* representative of the entire teenage population in 1958.
