This game is very special to me. My father is at this game and talked about it all the time. When Charlie Neal hits the HR and Al Smith gets his BEER BATH I found a pic on GOOGLE that showed my father way back in the back row of men that confirmed he was there I just wish I could have found that pic before he died in 2003 I found it in 2009. He always had nightmares when Sherm Lollar tried to score from first and was out by about 30 feet

It was really fun listening to this game. The only games from the 1959 Series I have heard were games 1 and 5, both of which the White Sox won.

I can see now why my father said he felt sorry for the Dodgers after the 1st inning. He swore he would never make that mistake again and feel sorry for another team against the White Sox. After this game he wanted to give no mercy step on their throats and never let up.

I have a request for a game if it possible to find this one. If OTR baseball could find the game in 1948 when Satchel Paige pitched his first MLB game that would be one game I would love to hear. If it is possible to find that game that would be great.

I don't think so but the world series game he pitched for the Indians against the Braves is available. I've tried to find any games he pitched for the old St. Louis Browns but so far no luck.

I wish I could have heard Bob Elson do the world series instead of these announcers

What a great pitchers duel, Podres vs. Shaw. The Dodgers had a better bench than the White Sox. Thanks for the post.

thanks for all the games. I wonder why I can_ leave comments on some and not do so on others where a comment would seem to be appropriate. I have nothing to add to this game or ask of you about this game. But a very recent posting (from last night) needs commenting on and I haven't been able to do so. thank you.

Of Course I am sure fans in Chicago(White Sox)remember the later ws loss, similar to how Oakland fans still does from 1988. Clearly the White Sox should have won this fall classic. Especially against the NL winners with I think the lowest win total for a pennant winner *in pre division/playoff era)of the 20th Century.* I think I read somewhere in 1959 at least 3 AL teams had better records than the later 1959 WS winners the Dodgers. Surprise this world series does not get discussed among the top tier "upsets" of the 20th Century. Especially since the Dodgers had to play a Tiebreaker NL playoff series with the Braves and no days off. Another proof that by no later than 1961-'62 (first years of expansion)IMO MLB should have begun expanded playoffs.

Interesting that Mel Allen, Yankees announcer, was selected by NBC over Sox announcer Bob Elson. NBC executives disliked Elson - they thought his style was too mild, soft-spoken. Elson was crushed. Throughout series Allen got names Sox names wrong. Saam does a great job. Sox did a poor job managing their roster. While Dodgers played all but one player, White Sox had basically 6 players who played little or not at all. Wynn and Donovan overused and their performance suffered, particularly in critical Game 6. Pierce should have pitched Game 2 at home.

Interesting that even Jack Brickhouse should have been given a shot to do the NBC broadcast for the home games for the Sox. Mel seems so out of place doing games from Chicago when his Yanks were always in the WS and he would broadcast all those games

I am astonished that Mel Allen, professional that he was, may have mispronounced any White Sox player's name. Admittedly, he was from Alabama and had the drawl working, but if he could say Kluszewski (which he could and did,) he could say anything.

@@musicmandon1 He got Al Smith's name right. But I was disappointed that he took no note of the beer falling on Al's head. :(

You don't make the first out of the inning at home plate!!! In a one run game in the World Series?!?!?! "It wasn't too close a play at home plate." Yikes. Killed the Sox that year and they'd have to wait until 2005 to get a ring.
