Such was the tolerance of the British classics meant the fitters of the day would always have a job - my dad was apprenticed as a fitter turner at UGB in St Helens later to Fords Hailwood in the press shop. The eastern counterparts didnt need fitters because their tolerances were much tighter allowing Mr Millyard to chop them up and rejoin them to within 2 thou :-) - Stay safe

Unlike my Electrixworld stator which is fixed, you could have just undone the stator plate and moved it in the slots.and looking good as well 👌👌👌

Top tip for putting screws/nuts in against spring tension is to use an appropriate size bit clamped in an old fashioned drill brace. You can compress the spring with the brace against your shoulder and tighten by turning the bit in the brace. Works for much more powerful springs too, like some bikes where the fork top-plug also preloads the spring.

Hi Michael, Another fine Sunday evening (for me, that's when I sit down to watch you) of workshop fun. Love to watch you working around problems and I do like a bit of machining thrown in for good measure, Most annoying when the parts you order and eagerly await the arrival of turn out to be wrong! Spoils your whole day well it does me, Still the best laid plans of mice and men gang aft aglae As that Scots fellow said! Still enjoying a Newcastle brown I hope? Stay Safe and away from any riots, See you next Sunday, Cheers Dave UK

Hahahaha I'm yelling at the screen - you get it close to TDC and 35 degrees and tighten the nut, then set fine adjustment with the 3 slotted holes in the backing plate mate- Dont you have to soak those friction plates in oil prior to install?

A tip for you. When fitting any keyless taper on a shaft. Line it up, then put a socket on the end and give it a smart smack with a hammer to set it on the taper. This stops it turning when you tighten the retaining nut.

the stator plate on the Electrex world ignition does not effect timing. It just indicates TDC

When I was 15 yrs old every man and his dog had a Beezer or a Triumph with one if these engines or it's descendants. Gearbox cam plate selector springs and kick start ratchet pawls were run of the mill, I also used to turn the cam plate upside down because it was cool to have a gearbox with a one up and three down selector.

I must admit that I was a bit surprised you didn’t change the gearbox spring earlier. I’ve had two break on two BSAs. When I got my first proper bike, a C15 from Revitts at Stowmarket, the day I went to collect it the mechanic had just done a road test and the spring broke. It took half a day of me hanging around until it was fixed. Jump forward a few decades and I got a B25 Fleetstar. The spring failed on that too!

I used to own a 1959 C15 Star, registration NHL 481, it was my winter hack for when my trusty T140E Bonneville was having a winter break, I sold the Ceefer to a girl in 1984 for £60, the bike was stolen in Nottingham a few months after she bought it. I checked the NHL 481 registration number on the web, it's now on a Renault car, I think the bike was stripped for spares, it still had all the original tin ware on it when I sold it.

It's an engine that was uprated by a previous owner. Not at all confusing. Changed the compression and the carb. Not the tractable power plant you'd want in a trials bike. Whoops... Should have spotted that earlier, Michael, but this is what your adoring fans love. Standard piston? Shims under the barrel? Our collective breath is bated. Keep up the good work, sir, and a jolly new year to one and all.

It's meant for sale as a road bike so I will just leave it in this state of tune.

@@BritanniaMotorcycles Excellent. I like it when an old bike's mods are retained. History isn't just kings and queens, it's also humble C15s that were bought, ridden, cared for and upgraded. Well done, sir, and may it's new owner carry on the good work.

What's this! 2BA thread repair kits are available in the US for about $104! In the UK for £40 + shipping. I have found shipping from the UK has gone expensive, and yet I ordered less than a pound of end mills from Michigan to Alabama and it was $16 ground! I would have searched ebay, but I needed an odd mill, which was available in the UK for less! I know I will get a world of flak from this but unless it is some extremely valuable item (like a Vincent or Brough Superior) I chase out No. 2 BA with a US #10-32. As of yet I haven't had any failures by doing this. The 60 degree included thread replaces the 47.5 degree thread seemingly well. Cheers!

To adjust timing can't you just move the plate holding the coils? The mounting points are slotted for that?

I look forward to my Sunday evening in the workshop with Mr. Waller. I noticed you didn't soak the clutch plates before fitting. (I know you shouldn't show a fool half a job)
@acooper44823 жыл бұрын
Good vid as always Mike. Without stating the obvious, when youre fitting the flywheel and your timing mark was out slightly you couldve just moved your stator plate round slightly saving you having to re remove the flywheel again. Does that type of stator have variable timing? Ive seen them before on 2 strokes where they dont rely on a pickup as such it works through the electronic cdi?

I'm wondering if a Heli-Coil insert would have fixed the threaded hole without all the fuss. If installed properly, it is a permanent repair.
@qshed3 жыл бұрын
I have used WURTH time serts at work. far better than a helicoil as they are a solid thread.
@4speed3pedals3 жыл бұрын
@@qshed I have never had a failure unless I did not trim to the proper length and for most people, that only happens once. You have to be doing something incorrect. I say bah humbug to you.
@4speed3pedals3 жыл бұрын
@@qshed being solid has nothing to do with the physics of what takes place when a bolt is tightened. The Heli-coil is wedged into the thread made by the tap. There is NO place for it to go. I know back in the 60's, we were told that you only need 2 threads using a Heli-coil to pull full torque. They are perfect for aluminum repairs as they will not cause corrosion.

I have a 65 Mustang here in the UK and NOS is all but gone for this car. The repop stuff is often of variable quality and there are a few fit issues with some parts like your clutch pack. As for modifications and "upgrades" that avenue can be strewn with minefields. It is entirely possible to spend a fortune on power increasing parts for the engine only to actually decrease it.

I am doing a clutch right now on my c15 trials but the basket wobbles like a bastard and can't stop it ? any ideas ? new center, new spider , do i need to fit a shim between the center and the basket ?
@BritanniaMotorcycles29 күн бұрын
I always replace the clutch rollers as a very small amount of wear in each roller adds up when there are so many. Also make sure that the centre nut is not bottoming out on the threads. There should be a very thick washer under it that the nut centre fits into.
