On "My Car Story" we're in Fountain Hills AZ on 1-9-22.
We're looking at a 1959 Buick LeSabre 2 Door Hardtop in Silver Birch Paint. The car comes with the factory 361 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Paul Maas. Paul’s had this car since 2015. Paul shares he has a picture and memories of his Uncles car with his Cousin sitting on it. He always liked that car. His Dad received the car, and Paul was able to drive that car. But…Dad found some beer cans in it, and sold it. Well Paul always wanted to get one just like it, and in 2015 he found this one. Congratulations Paul, your Uncle would be proud you found this one.
ENJOY!

My uncle had a 1959 LeSabre painted Tampico Red. I aways admired it. Bought new in fall, 1958 when I was a mere babe. I have the 1958 license plate from it with these odd chrome edging pieces surrounding it. Those gas pedal start Buicks always start with a flourish, and this one proves it. Thanks, Paul and Lou, for showing it in this video. Brings back lots of memories.

Hi, Lou! In 1959, Buick came out not only with totally new "Delta wing" styling with those fabulous fins and those impossible to ignore cocked headlamps, but also with completely new series names across the board. The LeSabre series replaced the Special at the entry level, the Invicta took over for the Century, and the Electra and Electra 225 succeeded the Super and Roadmaster. While they were pretty bold, they did back off on the chrome quite a bit compared to the '58s. I can understand how family can influence your taste in cars. Just like Paul took after his uncle, I myself wouldn't mind having a 1961 Chevy as my grandfather did. This is definitely one you don't get to see often. Many thanks to you and Paul for letting us see it!

Now this is a blast from the past. Buick's rarely get the attention for styling but the '59's were outrageous. My Dad came home with the same car Paul's uncle Irv had. 4 door pink. Great storey about the beer cans, and that was worth the trip to Philly. It's a beautiful survivor and there aren't many around. Thanks.

When I was much younger, I had a mostly negative opinion of Harley Earl's late 1950s designs. I had a similar dislike for most of Virgil Exner's Chrysler designs. The exceptions were the 1957 and 1958 Plymouth Furys...absolutely stunning cars! Well, as the years passed and my youthful/harsh opinions mellowed, I realized that both Earl and Exner were very much in tune with American culture and tastes. The 1950s were a transformational time and "modern" designs were finding their way into virtually all domestic consumer goods. Clothing/shoes and hair styles, furniture, appliances, architecture, automobiles and popular music. World War II and Korea were long over and America was proudly leading the world in standard of living and its consumer goods were the envy of the world. Americans eagerly awaited the introduction of the latest "new and improved" products... from refrigerators and Hi Fi record players to the latest from Detroit. Harley and Virgil understood perfectly, what the car buying public wanted...and delivered with lots of chrome to spare. Two tone paint, giant tail fins, huge V8 engines and styling that set tradition on its ear...and it all fit perfectly! I'm well into my 70s now, and I take my hat off to both Mr. Earl and Mr. Exner...I simply can't imagine our automotive history without them...BRAVO!

Harley Earl retired in 1958 because GM mandated a 65 year old retirement age. His original plan was for GM's divisions to use warmed over 1958 designs. However, while Earl was in Europe in the summer of 1956, Bill Mitchell quashed those plans after spying on Chrysler Corporation's upcoming 1957 cars.

Takes me back to the Go Go's video, Our Lips are Sealed where they drove a red drop top, almost a beater. Paul's ride up close was terrific! Love the color and the chrome outlining the fins. Taking the key out after starting was neat. My FIL had a Chevy with the fins of that era, I don't think they had the chrome tho. Lou, you mentioned the horn under hood & I thought you missed it. Then came Paul's double treatment of the 4 noter. Awesome!

Lou! I am becoming addicted to your reviews! The 1959. Buick actually ramped up my already strong interest in cars. Walking home from school , I saw this fuscia finned , slant headlights beast driving toward me. It looked dangerous and exciting! Looking back, I do prefer 1958 Buicks, but the 59s are great 👍. So good to see this guy find his dream car AND assuring previous owners that it will be loved and cared for!

I have a similar walking to school story. I was about five years old in 1965, walking one morning to school and I had always liked looking at the parked cars. I always felt that the front ends of the cars were like faces, I was fanciful and imaginative even back then LOL. Anyway I saw the gray rear end with the red lights and the slanted brows that reminded me of the cartoons that I watched when the characters were angry. I began to walk a little bit quicker past the car and then turned around and saw the front end. I kid you not, I ran past the next five cars making sure I could get away! :-). Later, after school let out I had the crossing guard cross me to the other side of the street so I wouldn’t be frightened by the sinister mean looking car :-)

Very nice Buick - and a great Car Story to go with it. I’ve learned to appreciate the 1959-60 GM full-size cars, they are real transition cars from the Jet and Chrome Age to the muscle car / Coke bottle look that would come by the mid 60s. Only two owners only adds to the charm. Thanks Lou!

One of the German guys who expressed an interest in buying it for his wife, had me show it to her. She took one look and said, in German of course, 'oh, no way! I'm not driving an orange car! I told you, I want a silver car!'. She was basically yelling this at her husband. Simply re-enforced my opinion that silver is far too popular, therefore, since I don't want to be like everybody else, I hate silver. But that Buick did look good in silver. I enjoy your vids....
