My parents had a new red and white 59 galaxie. Love the car I learned to drive in this car. But I would NEVER allow plastic seat covers NEVER!

Ford never publicly called it a "Fairlane 500 Galaxie", just GALAXIE, as there was a "regular" Fairlane 500 that was NOT a Galaxie, and Ford wanted to make sure people saw the new for 59 Galaxie as something special, with "Thunderbird Elegance". The 59 Fords debuted in the fall of 58, of course, EXCEPT for the Galaxie, which debuted in about January of 59. Convertibles made in calendar year 1958 were Fairlanes, those made after were Galaxies.
