It looks like the front turn signal light mimics the back up light.,maybe interchangeable too. I can see that being a Skyliner it would have less rear seat room, but wouldn't that mean an extra large trunk while the top is up. My picks here would be the '59 Fury although I like the '58 Belvedere more. My favorite Skyliner would be the 1958, which had a similar grill to Thunderbirds of the same year.

For WYR, I would pick the Ford for the first scenario, the ‘58 Ford for the second, and the Thunderbird for the third. I actually prefer the ‘58 dashboard to the ‘59. Having said that, I like the styling of the ‘59 Ford better than that year’s Chevy, which was a little too over the top especially that back end. A little bit of morbid history, the night of the Sharon Tate murders, the killers drove a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie. It wasn’t this particular model, however…it was a four door model with the back seat removed. I hope you feel better soon. When you can’t do your customary “toodle loo” you can’t be feeling too good.

It's going to sound pretty similar. Might sound a little bit better. I haven't recorded that one yet.

22:43 On the note of no power assist, If you find a factory or restored original example of a 57-59 Ford you cannot tell if its a power assist setup or a manual brake setup because the Power Assist Booster is actually IN line with the pedal Theres a T check valve that takes vacuum from the manifold and the bottom portion goes to the booster itself and the right side of the T goes to a vacuum tank located behind the fender Its a physical diaphragm that when pedal pressure is applied the vacuum will almost suck the pedal in with the booster giving you a softer easier pedal I have this setup on my 59 Galaxie sedan and can confirm it works incredibly soft when adjusted properly You can see the booster around 17:30 on the far right

Jay, you sound as if you aren't feeling well. I hope all is ok! Fun fact: 1959 and 1957 were two years where Ford outsold Chevy. When you showed the radio, I was surprised to see the 2 conelrad symbols at 640 and 1240. I somehow thought that they started using those in 62, so I thought that might be a later Ford radio. Turns out that they were used from 53 to 63. WYR= 59 Ford, 57 or 59 Ford, and I'll take the T-bird. Sorry, I don't like the 58 styling. Hope you feel better soon!

Another great subject,I have always preferred the 59 Ford as opposed to the 57,and 58.To me the 59 Ford station wagon was a really sharp looking car,and was so nicely toned down in my opinion as opposed to the 59 Chevy.The side profile kind of reminds me of the styling of 58 Buick. I am going to bore you guys with an experience with a dog leg,or wrap around windshield. I was 9 years old,my father was a Manager of the Farmer John Meat branch,and he used a 62 C-60 delivery truck to haul chairs and benches for a church picnic at Encanto Park in Phoenix. I was climbing up the step to get in the truck and wacked my head on the dogleg of the wrap around windshield,I was 9 years old broke the skin,and I remember it hurt like a son of gun and bled for a bit,so that was my experience with a wrap around windshield. As always Jay ,great work.

Hi Jay! Love the skyliners! What a concept. . .unless you were trying to travel with luggage!! There is a rather small bin RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of where the top folds into. i don't think it's accessible with the top folded down. But, since only small passengers are going to fit in the back seat, you could put your bags there, I guess. All that aside, it's a stunning car! My Dad worked at the local Ford dealer during these years and they were pretty unhappy with the 1958 restyle. Personally I don't think it's bad, but they did NOT like them at the dealership. When the 1959 came out they were rather better received. One strange peeve was that they had went with little lozenge shaped taillights in 1958, and Ford had had round taillights since 1952. So, I think corporate got the message and put those BIG round taillights back for 1959. Oddly, another model Dad told me was not well accepted at the dealers was the 1960, which I think is a really nice-looking car, but they had taken the round taillights off again! Must have been a thing back in those days! WYR One '59 Retract. Two 1957, Just LOVE that design. Three, hard, but going with the Galaxie here. LIKE that 'bird, though!

I'm dating myself here. My mom and dad had a 59 Galaxy, it was a two door. It was baby blue and white. It had the 352, so the fender markers had the thunderbird in them. The hood opened from the rear. It had everything you could have in 1959. 57 and 58 the door lock button was just behind the wing windows, in 59 it was on the back of the door.

I always liked the 59 Fords. There was one of these Skyliners in the favorite junkyard of my younger days; the top, trunklid, and seats were gone and a tree was growing through the rusted-out floorpan. I always heard these hydraulic cylinders were troublesome and it was hard to adjust the cables properly for the top. I like the 58 dashboard better. WYR goes to the 59 Chevy (I used to have a 61) and I like the 57 better than the later models. IMHO there were the least attractive 'Birds ever made so I'll go for the Skyliner. The 'dogleg windshields were touted as a safety feature because of the better visibility, but they didn't fare too good in a roll-over. Between that and the knee problem they went away in all cars after several years.

The back seat of Skyliner’s was more vertical than the other models due to the top needing the storage space. I read that somewhere and how it bothered some folks.
@What.its.like.4 күн бұрын
Ford seats in the 50s are weird even in cars that aren’t the Skyliner but I will admit the Skyliner is worse for rear seat. Space it would be perfect for a kid but a full size adult doesn’t fit back there very well considering the size of the car it’s a bit shocking.
@bparksiii61712 күн бұрын
@@What.its.like. Looking at a picture of the skyliner backseat it is more vertical than the regular 2 door plus the unintended safety benefit that the fuel tank was behind the rear axle, so the engineers had to be creative with the space left over in the trunk with the roof taking up space and keeping the decklid flat as possible, otherwise the decklid would be much higher like the late model Lexus roadster retractable (love to have one of those.) The Falcon-Comet hardtops and convertibles had a tight back seat too

I like the 58 dash better, but that's the only styling difference I prefer. I think the 59 full size Ford won the Gold Medal for exceptional styling by the Comité Français de l'Elégance at the Brussels World's Fair. 12:44 Less expensive 59's didn't have the front bumper section that went all the way back to the wheel well, only Galaxies & Fairlane 500s had it. (That's a hot Lincoln parked in front of this car). WYR: 59 Skyliner in all cases.
