I just recently are watching this and I have subscribed, and I don't always get into it when it first premieres. Cause I am very busy, but this is kind of pretty cool because my dad, his father, Ashley had one of these and he had the straight line sex model balair, 1959 Chevrolet, Blair and 1 day. What song me do my family? Can't remember my uncle, Jim and my father missed a school bus. So he was taken on to school in the 59 bchevy. Balera, that he just bought, and this woman also had a son who forgot their lunch and she was blowing behind them. Her husband's Willie's Jeep, and it was in Massachusetts. Framingham Massachusetts, she'd been lost control, or something I can't remember the full story, but they ended out crossing, and my dad ended up was in the front seat, he had no more than probably less than a teenager. He was probably like spy like 10. Maybe at most you get here at warning. 57 And he wasn't very old at the time when that happened that if you know that my father was born in 57, yeah, he wasn't very old when this actor happened and he had the shovely emblems and printed on his forehead from the metal dashboard. I just joke with him now. These days saying? That's probably why you're a Chevy man, father, but he was stopped at the traffic stop and stop sign app. Add an intersection from his house and wham. Bam and that all happened sent the car screening backwards and off the road. She really pushed him off. The road, which is probably easy to do with the old Willy jeeps from those time period They're built like a semi truck kind of today's standards and yeah, it totaled the car beyond repair, not even had the full registration on plates. Yet we still have the receipts for this car and still we also have to keep a lot of receipts, even to the furniture that we had back in the nineteen fifty nine region my dad's family members house. We had the receipts from a lot of him. He would a man of money and spent his money cheaply. If he could, you would buy anything cheap? But you're not cheap out on safety like used cars. He would make sure everyone always had a good quality for a new car for the family. A lot of people would say, oh, he was lucky not to die, but actually the car. According to what I could find from archives and claim to our family, if we didn't have that car, he would have been dead. Surprisingly, he has suffered no brain injury or anything like that. His doctor's name was after a old home. Doctor that came to his house. Call doctor burger. My dad's father and mother's name as Alan Marie. They were born a long time ago, but they always kept up from what I could see

I totally agree, and when you push the gas pedal down, it's surprising how much power they have all in silence an absolute comfort. Those are some of the nicest seats that I've ever sat in.. I got to drive a couple years ago and it was a great experience. The brakes were downfall of that car. They just Ford never had the best brakes in my opinion even now for whatever reason they've always struggled in the breaking department.

These are truly amazing cars! I owned a '69 version in Aspen Green with a green vinyl top and green leather interior. A dream to drive, so comfortable, lots of interesting features, and absolutely fiendishly complicated when it comes to repairs. Still, I'd own another in a heartbeat.

Another superb video, Jay! The Continental really got its start when in 1938 Edsel Ford had a one-off convertible made from a Lincoln Zephyr convertible which then was brought to production in 1939 as the Continental; the Continental division came to stellar status with the famed Mark II in 1956 & ‘57 only. You know the rest from there. Remember that Henry M. Leland worked with Ford prior to founding Cadillac and that Lincoln was named in honor of Abraham Lincoln. Remember the fact that some 97% of all vehicle brands once known are out of production.

My first car was a 1937 Ford Coupe. I think it was a Standard because I remember that it was a 60hp engine. I bought it in 1959, just before my 16th birthday and before I had a driver's license. I paid $65 for it. It was in unusual condition. -It was painted a color called "Tahitian Red" -It had big tires on the back and small ones on the front. That and the paint job made it look like a real hot rod! -It had been put on a 1940 frame so it had hydraulic brakes -It also had a 1940 dashboard and steering column so it had a column mounted gear shift but it still had a hole in the floor for the original lever! -With the different dashboard the knob for the opening windshield stuck through the rectangular hole where the radio was supposed to be. -It had the original mohair upholstery with cotton stuffing coming out in multiple places. -First gear was damaged so it only had two gears. If you stopped in high gear it stuck there until you got the car moving again. I had been saving money since I was 13 to buy a car so I might have been a little too eager. At the time I had a job but was only earning $4.00 per week, enough to buy four gallons of gas but not enough to repair the problems. I got to take my girlfriend for a ride once but only because my parents weren't home. I didn't have a license or insurance. I sold the car after about three months to a school mate. He planned to put in a bigger engine and took the front fenders and hood off, placing them outside of his garage. The parts were stolen and he junked the car. People are always asking me how I remember this kind of obtuse information when I can't remember what I was doing an hour ago.

I reluctantly departed with my '89 Spirit ES turbo 5-speed in 2023. By then it had just over 298000 miles on the original powertrain. I ran it hard the last 3 years I owned it, to the point that it was in need of some new parts; front struts, rear shocks, 4 new disk brake calipers and rotors. The engine had used up 5 head gaskets by then, and was in need of a hone job. The Mitso turbo had begun leaking oil through the shaft seal on the "hot" side, which caused quite a bit of smoke once the engine warmed up. The original stainless steel exhaust was still intact, save for the muffler that had separated from the tail pipe due to the weld finally fatiguing. A truck had lobbed a stone at the windshield, and the glass chip had finally spread all the way across the glass. The body had no rust through, but the top surfaces of the hood, roof, and trunk lid had lost their clearcoat and some base paint, resulting in surface rust. I seriously explored the cost of a full restore on my dependable little pony, but the resale value would have been far lower than the cost of all the work involved. It was a sad day for me when the flatbed came to take it away. It was the best car I had ever owned, and probably, that I will ever own.

The only new car I ever bought was an 82 Dodge 024 with the 2.2. Drove it home from the dealer with fresh oil and anti-freeze leaking out of the head. Chrysler wouldn't replace the headgasket only torque it. Also had a bad clutch chatter that Chrysler wouldn't authorize a replacment. Dumped it two years later before it blew up.

What a cool car! The turn signal stalk button is to engage the cruise control. The button on the dash was just to turn on/off the cruise. Fun fact: You can tell that this car does not have a tilt column by the ignition key being inserted into the top portion of the column. If the key went in on the bottom side of the column, it has tilt, and you push forward on the turn lever to release the mechanism. It looks like the A/C may still have R12 in it, too (no R134s adapters). WYR= I'll take the Mark lll, but for the 2nd scenario, the Mark ll is just soooo elegant, but I had an 88 Mark Vll LSC, and that was one of the best cars I ever owned! It's just a big, luxurious Mustang! NTT= I knew it was Boston, but no way would I know the song. Great video again, Jay!

My first car was a 10 year old '65 ragtop. It was beat to shit, had more Bondo than steel, the top mechanism didn't work, speedo was cranky, but really cool when it decided to work! The interior was in very good condition, leather upholstery...didn't have the wood grain, mine was a tuck and roll type of affair, but still nice. I was a 16 year old kid, and absolutely loved it! I just disconnected the 2 hydraulic cylinders at the top, just 2 cotter pins, and folded the top into the trunk by hand. My buddies and I had a blast with it. I sold mine a few years later to a guy who restored it, so it was a happy ending.

Hi Jay! The Continental Mk III is a HONEY! Those cars are so cool! Definitely comfortable cruisers! Ford used those seatbelt buckles for YEARS! Both of my '69's had them, as well as both Granadas my Mother had in the Seventies. Plus most of the Ford trucks I remember! I think they just put different stickers in the middle, according to which models they were installed in! Most of the Ford ones had the "starburst" pattern on the button without any logo. As I remember. WYR Continental MKiii, my favorite is that Lovely MkII.

"You won't believe all the gas it's a-drinking when you stand on the throttle in this Hot Rod Lincoln" 🤣 These were the apex years for Detroit when gas was cheap, quality was good, and styling wasn't hindered by 5 MPH bumpers. The US economy was strong, the 'Hippie" movement was in full swing as was the Vietnam war, and high performance muscle cars ruled the streets. Owning a new Lincoln or Cadillac was a high-level social symbol of wealth. These big cars float along on the road with a smooth ride unlike anything you can buy today. It's almost like sitting on your comfortable sofa as the world passes by outside. WYR the MK III has the best styling of these three in 1970. And I think the MK III series is the epitome of what these cars were.

Not trying to argue, but hopefully to explain. The four pointed, boxed star is the Continental emblem and the eight pointed star with circle is the Lincoln emblem. These were used from the 56 model through the 60 model to differentiate the the two different makes of automobiles. For 1961, the two brands were merged and only one car was produced, the Lincoln Continental, with the four pointed star Continental emblem.

@@What.its.like.you are welcome. The make and model names of FoMoCo's premium car lines have always been a bit confusing. This has to do with the varying divisions of Ford Motor Co. In 1955, the Continental Division was established to make and market the Continental brand, Mark ll model automobile. Continentals were thier own brand and division through the 59 model year. Part way through the 1959 calendar year, the Continental division was abolished and the Mercury, Edsel and Lincoln divisions were combined. In calendar year 1960, the Edsel portion was dropped and the division was renamed Lincoln Mercury. For the 1961 model year, the Lincoln and Continental brands or makes were combined into one automobile. It could be argued that the Lincoln brand was discontinued and that the Continental brand took its place but the Lincoln name was retained, primarily for legal reasons such as dealer franchise contracts.

Complements to yo on a well done presentation on the Continental and the history of its continuation after the 58-60 Mark which was the premium Lincoln instead of a standalone like the Mark 2. Had a couple of teachers and a Principal and other prominent folk owning the Mark 3 back in the day, always admired those, one of Ford's best crafted cars, they was a cut above the Eldorado of the day I would be proud to own one as a collector car and is a bargain compared to the other cars. Wouldn't mind having a maroon Mark 3 like Adam's for the first choice, second is a hard pick between the MK 4 or 5 both are elegant, watched Cannon drive his brown MK 4 on TV back in the day, and throw in the unloved rare Blackwood truck. Hope you catch the 51 Cadillac and the Riveria before they sell and that green Willys Jeep that Lincoln convertible would be a good one too.

Other than the grille, Mark III’s are a masterclass in satisfying the American luxury idiom with restraint and taste. I’ve read the designers were horrified at the instructions to stick a Rolls grille on it, so they clearly made up with beautiful styling and surfacing inside and out. The slight upward kick of the rear quarter panel is exceptionally well executed, and not dissimilar to the Rolls Royce Corniche - another RR reference!

In 1921, Barney Everitt, William Metzger, and Walter Flanders reunited once again to produce the Rickenbacker (in partnership with Eddie Rickenbacker). However, the company never really got off the ground. Profits were low or nonexistent, and the company was devastated by the death of Walter Flanders in an automobile accident in 1923. The company limped along for a few years, but in 1926 Rickenbacker, disgusted with the constant bickering, resigned. Other company officers left, and Rickenbacker Motors closed for good in 1927. In the late 1920s, William Metzger turned to aircraft. He had been a good friend of the Wright brothers, and felt the US needed more airplane manufacturing. In 1926, he helped Edward Stinson form the Stinson Aircraft Company. The next year, he organized the first All-American Aircraft Show in Detroit. In 1929, he organized the Cadillac Aircraft Co. The company built technically superior aircraft, but the onset of the Great Depression hurt the company

Jay, love the video! I am surprised that you didn't point out the rim blow horn steering wheel. It was an option on some Ford cars from 1969 to 1974. Another curiosity, the windshield wipers were run hydraulically from the power steering pump. This was a feature shared with the Ford Thunderbird for many years. As you found out, the T-birds and Marks were built side by side. Because of this, the power steering pumps were gear-driven, connected to the timing case. Ford people considered this actually a 462, especially when trying to get parts. The early 1969 Mark III's actually had an MEL 462. The 385 series is merely a cousin to the MEL 462. Through 1967, the 462 was the largest engine available in an American passenger car. In 1968, Cadillac one-upped them with the 472 and until the last Caddy 500, Cadillac owned the rights to the largest engine. lol
