Wow, this rare Park Lane is absolutely gorgeous inside & out, & it's a convertible!!! It's obvious that this was painstakingly restored to perfection!!! Thanks for showcasing this beautiful Mercury!! 👍👍

@@youngexotics2155 Whoa there, not so fast. Someone who painstakingly restores a car doesn't drop the ball by chopping the front suspension and installing an uncoordinated, mickey-moused-up interior. The backwoods blacksmith who did this should be imprisoned and banned from owning anything over ten years old!

Always a Big Mercury fan. Owned a 1954 Hardtop, 1957 Turnpike and a new 1967 Hardtop. This '59 speaks of the best of the 50's outrageous styling. Interesting owned an identical 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air sedan same colours and a 1962 Thunderbird Landau Hardtop. A man after my own taste in cars.

OMG. I one day in 1959 when I was 10 years old, my dad and I strolled casually into a Mercury dealership in our town and there in the showroom sat a Parks Lane convertible identical to this one. Exact color and interior. As I ran my little hands over the boot cover my dad just shook his head and said, "Too many gizmos to go wrong with cars like this." I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was 12 when this car was introduced and was instantly smitten. I immediately went out and found a pair of A.M.T. Parklane convertibles, one Marble White and one Tuxedo Black. Together they cost me $4.00 and I paid them off over the next several weeks washing cars and mowing lawns. I still have them today. I noted one of the investigative TV shows researching D.B. Cooper (the 1971 airline hijacker who was never apprehended) showed a picture of a house that belonged to a suspect they believed to be Cooper. Parked in front is a 1959 Mercury Parklane convertible.

wow. in a decade of exuberant style excesses, the '59 Merc is over the top. I always thought the front end was somewhat subdued, although the closeups of the grill in this vid show how intricate it is. But the sides and especially the rear are out this world...those taillights...must really be something to follow one in the dark. Check out the '59 Park Lane 2 door hardtop for a wild roofline. another thing that is interesting in this gen of merc is the amazing amount of knee room for the front seat...the dash seems a mile away, and the steering wheel super long to reach the driver. thx for showing this incredible car.

This was the car that got me wanting a classic car. As a child, I would watch "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" on the Saturday Night Chiller Movie Double Feature. A 1959 Mercury Parklane convertible, cream colored, was featured in the film. There were many shots from many angles of it flying down a country road. I loved it. 30 years later I saw one in person exactly like it at a car show. I couldn't find or afford a Parklane convertible, so I settled for a Montclair 2-door Cruiser. It was a very nice car.

A neighbor had the same car but with black interior and top. I got to ride in it once with the top down. It was so fabulous.

So, so true. I know of no other single automobile where one model was superbly designed, and all the rest were dreadful, ugly toilet-flushers. I've owned three Parklane 2-DHTs and a Monterey convertible, yet never a Parklane convertible. Between 1957 and 1962 Mercury really lost it, with this one exceptional standout, the 1959 Parklane.

When I was a boy, my father bought a new 1959 Park Lane, 4 door hardtop, in dusty rose. He traded his 1957 black and white Turnpike Cruiser in. I preferred the 1957. He got rid of the Park Lane in about a year. I remember him telling the dealer the transmission had gone out, and it was their problem. It failed before the new car he ordered had been delivered.

Looks like after market a/c. The car sits too low. My parents had this is in a 4 door hardtop for 5 years. They were fabulous cars. Best Mercury ever built.

Certainly a beautiful car. To me it seems to be sitting awfully low to the ground. Was that normal for the '59's? I was alive in 1959 but was very young. I just can't remember how low FoMoCo cars rode back then.
@onapona
@onapona 3 жыл бұрын
You are right, after I finished the restoration of the car back in 2005 it was sitting very high in the front. I decided to cut the springs to adjust the height but misjudged how much to cut so it ended up lower than planned.

Mercurys and Fords were built on the same platform. So they weren't any lower, but they were a little bit longer in the luggage compartment. when we went on vacation with the trunk fully loaded with suitcases and the rear seat filled with all of us kids, the car bottomed out backing out of the driveway.
