I'll never forget my white '59 Sport Fury with green interior. It didn't have all the goodies mentioned in the ad but it was super nice. It had a 318 with a Holly 4 barrel carb. Loved the swivel front seats. I certainly wish I still had seats like that in all the cars I had after it. I could really use those swivel seats now at 80 years old. 😣

This ad is so PERFECTLY of its time. Although I came of driving age decades after this was made, I have my entire life always owned at least one car made in 1959 or 1960. The reason is simple - the space age retro future styling. It was such a fun and unique (and brief!) moment in automotive history. One that needs to be preserved and still seen on American roads! This ad is amazing.

When i was a little kid my dad had a 4 door hardtop in light blue. It was a Sport Fury also (with the toilet seat). The inside was very cool looking, one of the best ever made to me. I would love to have that car today ///////

When I was a Junior in High School I owned a 59 Plymouth Sports Fury Convertible. Purchased it in 1965 for $375, drove it for a year ended up selling it for $85. Different time back then.

Not a fair comparison because most new cars were very basic in those days...especially Ford, Plymouth, and Chevrolet. Air conditioning, power windows, and power seats were available on them but rarely ordered because they were expensive options. Instead many of the low priced three were ordered only with an AM radio, 3 on the tree manual or 2 speed automatic transmission, drum brakes, and the standard hubcap or the cheapest wheel cover. Splurging on a new low priced car in those days was usually just adding a 3-Speed automatic transmission, power brakes, power steering, whitewall tires, the fanciest wheel covers, and dual antennas. No ABS, infotainment touch screen, backup camera, power door locks, power mirrors, and cruise control on them like 99 percent of modern new cars. Modern cars have all the advanced technology which makes them expensive.

Now that GM has destroyed the sedan market, they are doing away with them. All you'll be able to buy are SUVs and trucks, which are the auto industry's "cash cows." Moderate to low income individuals don't interest the auto industry any longer. The average car today cost around $25,000 for anything decent and go up in price from there. You can get a vehicle for less, but you're not getting much for the money. They don't push sedans because they are cheaper and not money makers for them. So, now they tell us no one wants them (big surprise). They have talked us into believing that SUVs and trucks are "cool", and "desirable", so they feed our egos and make us think anything else is just not cool or desirable. They led us by the nose right to their biggest money makers and now we're stuck with them. Gas prices are not going to stay $2,00 a gallon forever and when prices go back up again, we're going to be stuck with mega-truck gas guzzlers and huge SUVs we're going to have to "feed" again. I hope being manipulated doesn't bother people because this is exactly what they're doing. Seven years is a long time to pay for anything and the interest makes long drawn out payments even worse. And, by the way, GM still owes the American people $11 billion from when we bailed them out. I don't buy GM for that reason alone.

You shouln't think like this... Just thinking that you could would be a good way to begin with it all... I'm from Catalonia (Spain), and just 22 year old, had been wishing a '58 Plymouth since before even having my driving license, I knew there were extremely few cars like this in Europe, and what was worse... If you could find one it would cost you about 50.000e which is A LOT... It was an unachievable dream for me so I got other european classic car that I loved and were much cheaper and easy to get and repair, mainly french ones... Then I started studying mechanics and at that time i could afford my first american car which was alredy in spain and not extremely expensive, needed some work but it was soon on the road... Then i finished my studies and began working as a mechanic for the french brand Citroen.. I was and still am very little paid but... You know? I could look for a '58 Plymouth in California (3500$) and ship it to spain (that isn't close to california at all hahahahahah) It has been money, time, and quite difficult, but I have the car here now, needs paint, needs interiors, needs many things, but I'm slowly turning it like new and that kid that once dreamed the car, has now got it... If you want... Yo can, you never have to conform if you want something different, because you can get it... There are things in life that you can't even get with money or effort... But a car... You should start thinking of it right now!!

They immediately decreed that people who were attractive, well groomed, well dressed and polite were "obsolete."
