1959 vintage cine film "A Coach Tour of Scotland"

This is a Wallace Arnold Tour, probably emanating in London judging by its early and late locations. The coach is 8341U, a Leyland Tiger Cub with a Burlingham coach body dating from 1958 - a year before this film. At 0 min 43 sec. it seems to be in Harrogate Valley Gardens and they stayed (or ate) at the Prospect Hotel. At 3min 23 sec it is Fort William and the archway entry into the old harbour railway station, then the Grand Hotel. At 4min 20sec we see the old suspension bridge at Inverness which was demolished in 1961. At 7min 50sec. the film is back at Harrogate, then at 7 min 57sec it is at Leicester. I can't help with other locations.

@3:38 is Gordon Square in Fort William. The official end of The West Highland Way (moved from the other end of town in an attempt to get people - anyone! - onto the High Street) the building behind the bus is now a Wetherspoons. @5:03 the Building is Inverness Castle

How pleasant, a coach tour in a classic comfortable Burlingham seagull coach. No traffic wardens no speed cameras, no double yellow lines, no 24/7 shopping, no inernet/social media, no racial tensions, a slower quieter pace, must have been winderful. Great little film .

As both double yellow lines and traffic wardens were introduced a year after this film was shot there was obviously a need for them as people (in London at least) were being irresponsible idiots and leaving their cars wherever they felt like. And 'no racial tensions'... really? I suppose as the first Race Relations Act was five years away and it was perfectly legal to stick notices saying, "No Coloured No Irish" in boarding house windows - yeah a bloody paradise as long as you were white - and not Irish.

Hi. A question that has probably been asked before. I’ve digitalised quite a few family cine films from 60s & 70s simply by projecting on to the wall and filming with my digital video camera. Would like to do them better frame by frame. Any particular brand of equipment you would recommend ?

Hi Andrew, some of the early videos on my Chanel were digitised using a projector and video camera. ( a variable speed projector was best to sync video and projector speeds). I now use a reflecta scanner (similar to a wolverine) and results are far better. These types of machines will never obtain the quality of a high end professional and therefore very expensive telecine machines but the results are quite good. I have a couple of videos on my channel showing how I make the scans and also simple post scanning techniques using iMovie which you may find helpful.
