Nice work Joseph - An experienced welder could have welded a nut onto the broken stud and removed the broken bolt. I broke a lot of bolts when I worked in a machine shop. The owner of the shop would first try to coax the bolt out with a punch and hammer. That rarely worked. Then he would heat things up with a torch. Hold a nut over the hole and then with his tombstone welder he would weld the nut onto the broken bolt. Once the weld cooled, he would heat the surrounding metal and slowly remove the bolt by loosening and tightening the broken bolt. he always managed to fix my mistakes. there are videos on KZbin that demonstrate the technique. I enjoyed your video. Enjoy the journey - cheers

Thanks. It is interesting that you should mention welding a nut on the stud, this is something we have done many times and it works very well. This was was odd in that the bolt had snapped half way down the thread and we had nothing to weld the nut onto without causing damage to the thread. We will revisit this at some point in the future. Take care

So much fun to find a sheared off bolt, isn't it? That's a creative solution: grinding the bolt off a bit and using the available threads!
@GardenTractorBoyАй бұрын
Thanks. We really struggled with that bolt. If it had broken flush with the surface we could have welded a nut on the end. Take care and I hope you have a great weekend

Thanks. It is a great system and works very well on the tractor to make changes to the gearing while the tractor is still on load. We will demonstrate it working when we do the finial adjustments but we still have a long way to go before we can do that. Take care

Great video Joseph! I enjoy watching the teardown and rebuild of assemblies like that. Your attention to detail is very well trained. I would be so tempted to paint the parts in order to bring the machine back to its original sheen. Take care!
@GardenTractorBoyАй бұрын
Thanks 👍The assembly feels great now it is rebuilt and very much worth doing. When we started the project we decided we would not paint the tractor and just bring out as much of the original paint as possible but we do keep questioning that. Take care
