My mom had that powertrain in a 64 Chevelle. Mechanic redid the trans for a firm shift. When you floored it and it shifted at WOT it went BANG and the car jumped. Loved that car.

Our family had about the same model, 383 engine except 2 barrel Carbs original, side mirrors where on doors, aerial (radio) was on front passenger car fender, and last but not least, dashboard was definitely not padded, was metal, ours was copper coloured, white top, same upholstery fabric and design. neighbours had same car, red and white, their dashboard was not padded either ??? Both cars where purchased almost together from Luby Chevrolet in Miami Florida.
@cliffmcsparran33904 жыл бұрын
The V-8s available in 1960 were the 283 this car has, or the 348. Padded dash was an option.

How come everytime someone opens the trunk of an impala, they immediately think about how many dead bodies can fit in it...
@fabiandeleon25424 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty much a car guy meme before memes were a thing. If you had an old school with a big trunk, then you flex on it by saying how many body’s you can fit in there for having a big trunk.

I don't know about 'dead' bodies but when I was a kid it was about how many people you could sneak into the 51/16 Drive-In.

Manual brakes and probably manual steering, I didn't see a power steering pump. This car much like my 1965 BelAir which also had manual brakes and steering, it was a handful to drive on twisty country roads. Six turns lock to lock my arms would get a real workout.
@NebukedNezzer6 жыл бұрын
with the powedrglide you can not hurt this car buy just running it wide open up to 90mph. I owned on of these and it was a station wagon. Paid 20 bucks for it. not this nice at all but got over 4 years of family use out of it and sold it for 100. I put about 500 into it in the 4 continuous use as our only family car.. The real danger was the fuel tank on the station wagon. a 20mph rear bump could incinerate everyone in the car. Lucky I did not know that.

My 64ss impala with two speed power glide shifts out at 15 mph from first and second gear is good for 105 mph to the 120 mark crazy right?
@frankgiaquinto15716 жыл бұрын
IIRC, the powerglide trans / 283 combination would up shift from first to second at approximately 26 mph under light to moderate acceleration. FYI for our younger readers: it was a two speed automatic transmission,so it only shifted once.Beautiful car!
